Data Centre Project / Deployment Manager

Location: Acton or Slough

Working Pattern: Full-time onsite

Overview

We are looking for an experienced Data Centre Project / Deployment Manager to manage and coordinate large-scale IT infrastructure deployments within live data centre environments.

This is a technical data centre delivery role, rather than a generalist Project Manager position. We are looking for someone with strong, recent experience working within data centres, who has a solid understanding of the physical infrastructure and practical activities involved in deploying technology on the data centre floor.

The role would be particularly well suited to someone who has developed their career within the data centre environment, for example progressing from a Data Centre Technician / Engineer into a Senior or Lead Technician position, before moving into Deployment Management or Project Management.

The successful candidate should combine this technical, hands‑on understanding with the ability to manage end‑to‑end infrastructure deployments, coordinating teams, schedules, resources, dependencies, risks, suppliers and operational handover.

Projects will involve large-scale server deployments, network infrastructure, racks and enclosures, storage, structured copper and fibre‑optic cabling, capacity expansion, technology refreshes, migrations and decommissioning.

You will be based full‑time onsite in either Acton or Slough, working closely with the teams responsible for delivering and operating the physical data centre environment.

What We're Looking For

A key requirement for this position is recent and relevant data centre experience.

We are looking for someone who understands the physical data centre environment through practical experience and can comfortably work with technical teams responsible for infrastructure deployment.

You should have strong knowledge and experience across areas such as:

  • Servers and large-scale hardware deployment
  • Racks and enclosures
  • Network equipment
  • Storage infrastructure
  • Structured copper cabling
  • Fibre‑optic infrastructure
  • Physical infrastructure deployment
  • Capacity expansion
  • Hardware migrations and technology refreshes
  • Infrastructure and equipment decommissioning

You will not necessarily be carrying out the physical installation yourself in this position, but you should have the technical knowledge and previous hands‑on experience to understand how the work is delivered, identify dependencies and risks, challenge where necessary and effectively manage deployment activities within a live data centre.

We are therefore particularly interested in candidates who have progressed from hands‑on data centre technical positions into Senior, lead, deployment or project management responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Data Centre Deployment & Project Delivery

  • Create, manage and communicate end‑to‑end project and deployment plans for large-scale data centre IT infrastructure projects.
  • Manage projects from initial planning through deployment, implementation, validation, operational handover and closure.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, milestones, resources, budgets, dependencies, risks, issues, changes and quality requirements.
  • Coordinate large-scale server and hardware deployment activities.
  • Manage the deployment of racks, enclosures, networking, storage, structured cabling and fibre‑optic infrastructure.
  • Coordinate capacity expansion, infrastructure upgrades, equipment migrations, technology refreshes and decommissioning.
  • Monitor delivery progress, quality, risks and dependencies and ensure appropriate actions are taken where issues arise.
  • Identify project gaps or delivery obstacles and establish mitigation or recovery actions.
  • Ensure completed deployments meet agreed acceptance criteria before transition into operations.

Technical & Operational Coordination

  • Translate technical and business requirements into executable deployment plans, work packages, resource requirements, milestones and acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate infrastructure deployment, upgrades, migrations, testing, technology refreshes and planned maintenance within live data centre environments.
  • Develop and coordinate implementation plans, Methods of Procedure (MOPs), risk assessments, maintenance windows, technical dependencies, contingency measures and rollback/recovery arrangements.
  • Understand and manage dependencies involving servers, storage, networking, racks, cabling, fibre infrastructure, logistics, assets, power, cooling, security and site access.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Data Centre Operations, Deployment, Network, Critical Environment, Security, Logistics, Supply Chain and Asset Management teams.
  • Ensure the appropriate resources, approvals, access, tools, materials and technical support are available before deployment work begins.
  • Coordinate implementation activities within live, production and mission‑critical environments.
  • Ensure deployment activities follow agreed designs, implementation procedures, change controls, safety requirements, security controls and quality standards.
  • Identify technical or operational risks that could result in service interruption, capacity constraints or other impacts to the production environment.
  • Escalate where site conditions, technical dependencies or deployment activities create unacceptable risk or deviate from the agreed plan.
  • Coordinate post‑implementation validation, service‑health checks, issue resolution, documentation and operational handover.

Stakeholder, Supplier & Risk Management

  • Coordinate delivery across internal technical teams, operations teams, suppliers, installation partners and contractors.
  • Manage supplier and contractor scope, schedules, resources, deliverables, quality and corrective actions.
  • Establish clear responsibilities, technical dependencies, completion criteria and delivery expectations.
  • Proactively identify project risks, conflicts, resource constraints and potential operational impacts.
  • Escalate material risks, schedule delays, unresolved dependencies and quality concerns.
  • Provide clear project updates covering progress, milestones, schedules, risks, issues, dependencies and required actions.
  • Drive actions through to completion with clear ownership and target dates.
  • Maintain accurate project plans, schedules, risk and issue registers, change records, status reporting, acceptance evidence and closure documentation.

Safety, Quality & Operational Control

  • Promote strong standards of safety, security, quality and compliance throughout deployment activities.
  • Ensure appropriate risk assessments, work controls, change approvals, implementation plans and recovery arrangements are established before work begins.
  • Ensure deployment and maintenance activities are carefully controlled when taking place within live production environments.
  • Support post‑implementation reviews and lessons‑learned activities to improve future deployments.

Essential experience

  • Strong, recent experience working within data centre environments is essential.
  • Previous hands‑on technical data centre experience or a strong practical technical background in physical data centre infrastructure.
  • experience progressing into Data Centre Deployment Management, Project Management, Infrastructure Delivery or an equivalent leadership position.
  • Demonstrable experience managing and successfully delivering large‑scale or complex data centre IT infrastructure deployments.
  • Strong experience with physical data centre infrastructure, including several of the following:

    • Technology refreshes
    • Infrastructure or hardware decommissioning
    • Data centre capacity onboarding
  • experience managing deployment activities and infrastructure changes within live, production, mission‑critical or 24x7 data centre environments.
  • Strong understanding of the practical dependencies involved in physical infrastructure deployment and the ability to work effectively with hands‑on engineering and technician teams.
  • experience managing end‑to‑end project scope, schedules, milestones, resources, dependencies, risks, issues, changes, quality, acceptance and operational handover.
  • experience with implementation planning, Methods of Procedure, risk assessments, change controls, contingency planning and rollback/recovery arrangements.
  • experience coordinating technical teams, operations teams, suppliers, contractors and other delivery partners.
  • Strong stakeholder management, supplier management, problem‑solving, escalation and decision‑making skills.
  • Ability to operate effectively in fast‑paced, high‑pressure and mission‑critical data centre environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to work full‑time onsite in either Acton or Slough.
  • Ability to support critical deployments, maintenance windows or project escalations outside standard business hours when required.
  • Ability to meet relevant security‑screening requirements.
