TekAlloy are looking for a commercially driven Technical Sales Engineer to join a growing engineering business based in Wakefield. Relevant sector experience in materials handling or heavy engineering is needed for this role. Our client, a specialist within large scale material handling and engineering services, is looking to strengthen their commercial team with a technically capable sales professional. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who can combine engineering knowledge with strong business development skills to drive sustainable growth and build long-term customer relationships.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing new business, managing key accounts, and delivering technically sound, commercially competitive proposals. You’ll work closely with senior leadership and internal teams to support strategic growth and maximise market opportunities. This role would suit an experienced Technical Sales Engineer or Business Development professional with a background in engineering, looking to take ownership of a territory and play a key role in business expansion.
Duties
- Identify, develop, and secure new business opportunities within the engineering and material handling sector
- Build and strengthen relationships with existing customers to maximise long-term value
- Conduct technical sales visits across the UK, engaging with key decision-makers
- Review customer specifications and drawings to prepare accurate technical and commercial proposals
- Produce cost estimates and quotations while protecting margins
- Develop and manage sales pipelines using CRM systems
- Monitor performance through KPIs, providing regular forecasts and updates to senior leadership
- Research market trends and competitor activity to strengthen value propositions
- Support the development of service, spares, and maintenance offerings to drive recurring revenue
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent sales performance and delivery
We’re looking for someone with:
- Proven experience in technical sales or business development within an engineering environment
- Strong commercial awareness with a focus on revenue growth and margin protection
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications
- Experience managing sales pipelines, CRM systems, and forecasting
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- A proactive, organised, and self-motivated approach
- Willingness to travel across the UK
- Experience in material handling or similar sectors (advantageous)
