Balfour Beatty has created iconic buildings and infrastructure worldwide over the past 115 years, redefining excellence and setting industry benchmarks with every project.
Alongside several consortium partners, Balfour Beatty has been selected by bp (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage. This project is a key component of plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Underground Networks Section Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.
Role purpose: To support the implementation of the engineering strategy and framework for the project.
What you’ll be doing
As an Underground Networks Section Engineer, you’ll ensure project plans for delivering products and services meet requirements on the first attempt and drive the elimination of waste and reduction of the cost of quality through:
- Ensuring quality management planning, including business unit/contract quality plans and industry-specific plans.
- Challenging systems and processes to ensure best practices and continuous improvement.
- Developing, maintaining, and applying appropriate content for the Business Management System (BMS) to meet business needs.
- Ensuring project or SBU standards are integrated into ways of working within the BMS and local quality planning.
- Monitoring and reporting on project/SBU performance related to quality, and implementing management actions for improvement.
- Conducting investigations and root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
- Raising awareness of quality policies and requirements across the business.
- Coaching and developing quality skills within teams.
- Ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 and other relevant standards and requirements.
- Providing quality-related training to enhance skills and drive improvements.
- Supporting audit functions and management system reviews.
- Facilitating quality improvement initiatives.
Who we’re looking for
The following qualifications and experience are required:
• Ability to carry out complex setting out.
• Experience in creating as-builts and coordinating complex underground infrastructure.
Quality
• Experience in producing ACP.
• Understanding of construction tolerances.
• Familiarity with specifications and contract documents.
Health, Safety & Environmental
• Understanding of permit systems and active permit-to-work processes.
• Ability to identify hazards and proactively implement controls.
Productivity
• Ability to interpret and use the 13-week Stage Programme.
• Experience with updating internal systems like AIMS (training provided).
Commercial
• Good understanding of contract documentation.
• Knowledge of subcontractor and supplier terms and conditions.
Previous Experience
• Experience in underground utilities, drainage, and earthworks.
