About the role

Balfour Beatty have created iconic buildings and infrastructure all over the world over the past 115 years redefining excellence and setting the industry benchmark with every project.
As a result, alongside several consortium partners; Balfour Beatty have been selected by BP (British Petroleum) to construct a first-of-a-kind fully integrated gas-fired power station with carbon capture and storage which is a key driving force behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Logistics Manager to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside project based at our new site in Redcar.
Role Purpose
- To provide management, leadership and control of the BBK project logistic requirements and to work inclusively with the wider BB logistics team. The overall objective is to provide a clear concise coordinated approach to the project .
- To control, manage and take responsibility for the project logistics and assist and advise Project Managers in the management of the this activity as required to deliver sections of a larger scale project.
- Management of project contractors and suppliers and their integration on the project to ensure the successful management of all site logistics.
- To meet customer specifications (safety, quality, time, etc.) such that all risk, specification and project objectives are met in full
What you’ll be doing
As a Logistics Manager you will have the following responsibilities,
- Overall responsibility for the successful management of the project logistics required to support the day to day delivery of construction activities across the project
- Awareness of budget, cost control and cost recovery, ensuring that expenditure is in line with the contract budget and that resources are utilised efficiently
- Involvement in the Procurement of multiple packages to meet logistical requirements with supply chain partners
- Ensure that especially large and/or complex shipments arrive in a safe, Planned, coordinated manner taking into account the Implementation of customer requirements for special orders
- Carry out periodic Safety & Environment Tours as required by the Project H & S Plan
- Undertake & Lead periodic risk reviews and present to the Project Risk Register, and recommend changes
- Manage sub-contractors, including monitoring of contractor attendance and progress, providing direct instruction and support as necessary, such that contractual arrangements are achieved
- Draw up and monitor short term programmes aligned to the overall programme in order to communicate plans and actions
- Ensure that detailed plans are available commensurate with the overall project plan, such that material/resources/supply chain can be delivered to meet scheduled deadlines
- Set in place process and procedures for the management of logistic items including; Welfare facilities, consumables, plant and equipment and the management of these process and procedures
including KPI reporting - Keep track of quality, quantity, stock levels, delivery times, transport costs and efficiency
- Ensure site audits are undertaken and take appropriate action on the findings
- Proactively implement systems and processes to manage the quality of the logistics function
- Assist with the production of operational target programmes to reflect overall construction
programme - Lead weekly team meetings to review performance on site
Who we’re looking for
The following qualities/experience are required:

- A successful track record in managing logistical operational delivery within a construction environment

- Experience of working on Large scale complex project types, ideally Oil & Gas

- Logistics in transportation required

- Experience in Offloading and distribution of large scale goods and equipment essential

- CSCS Card and SMSTS qualified; must be willing to become First Aid qualified

- Able and willing to make decisions following consideration of options based on best available information; track record of solution orientated approach to resolve issues

- Ability to confidently deliver presentations

- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office packages (MS Word, Excel)

- Strong leadership and management skills, with experience of managing a multi-disciplined team

- Understands and can guide others in the principles of Accident / Incident Investigation

- Good working knowledge of current H & S legislation and Temporary Works regulations

- Clear understanding and experience of the requirements for Inspection & Test Plans

- Used to setting and successfully managing targets in line with budget

- Able to produce a realistic programme and proactively track progress

- Able to identify elements for cost recovery from others and guide team members in maintaining project records
