Overview
MIMA Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art is recruiting six Gallery Assistants to join our front of house team. The Gallery Assistant is the first point of contact for visitors and helps us deliver exhibitions and programmes to the public every day. This recruitment includes 5 x zero hour contracts and 1 x 0.3 FTE (11.10 hours a week).
Responsibilities
- Pro-actively engage with visitors and invigilate gallery spaces to the highest possible standard.
- Support the running of the gallery, monitor security, and report on day-to-day management of the venue.
- Demonstrate passion for our exhibitions and public programmes to inspire visitors in their everyday lives.
- Assist with basic DIY tasks to support the technical team during exhibition changeovers.
- Provide excellent visitor and customer service as part of the front of house team.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Enthusiasm for the arts and understanding of the impact of the arts within the local community.
- Strong customer service skills and a passion for public engagement in a creative setting.
- Enjoy working with people and a genuine interest in how galleries and museums improve community life.
- Willingness to engage with visitors and support daily gallery operations.
- Basic DIY skills to support exhibition changeovers.
- The position is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and a satisfactory DBS disclosure is required as part of clearance procedures.
- Please note that due to UKVI minimum salary thresholds, this post will not qualify for University sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa route.
