School Caretaker / Site Manager

Working Hours
Monday to Friday – split shift:
7:00am–10:30am and 2:00pm–5:30pm
We are looking for a dependable, proactive and practical School Caretaker / Site Manager to support the smooth day-to-day operation of a busy school in Oldham.
This is an important role within the school, helping to maintain a safe, secure, clean and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
The successful candidate will be practical, organised and able to work independently, while also working positively as part of the wider school team. You will take pride in maintaining high standards across the site and ensuring the school premises remain safe, secure and fully operational.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day upkeep, maintenance and security of the school site, including opening and locking up the premises.
- Carry out minor repairs and general maintenance duties.
- Undertake basic DIY tasks; experience in painting and decorating would be advantageous.
- Maintain accurate records relating to maintenance, compliance, health and safety, and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) checks.
- Ensure the school premises are maintained to a high standard, and any issues are identified and addressed promptly.
- Liaise with contractors and oversee works carried out on site.
- Assist with setting up rooms and supporting site logistics for school events and activities.
- Support the school’s health and safety and compliance procedures, including asbestos and Legionella awareness.
- Monitor the site for potential maintenance, health and safety or security issues and report these promptly.
- Respond proactively to issues that could affect the safety, security or smooth operation of the school.
- Support emergency procedures and help ensure the site remains secure at all times.
- Work cooperatively with school staff, contractors and visitors.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience working as a School Caretaker, Site Manager, Facilities Assistant, or in a similar facilities or maintenance role.
- Strong practical maintenance and DIY skills.
- A good understanding of relevant health and safety requirements, including fire safety, Legionella awareness and asbestos awareness.
- The ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A flexible, reliable and proactive approach.
- A current Enhanced DBS.
- Availability to start immediately.
