Salary: Band E, Points 18–25
Pro-rated Starting Salary: £23,656 per annum

About the Role

A well-regarded school in Oldbury is seeking an organised, proactive and confident School Office Manager to join its busy school office on a one-year maternity cover contract.

The successful candidate will lead the front office team and provide high-quality, confidential administrative support to the Senior Leadership Team. You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the school office, maintaining excellent administrative standards and providing a welcoming and professional service to pupils, parents, staff, visitors and external agencies.

We are looking for an experienced and adaptable administrator who is confident managing a busy office, supporting and developing staff, and improving administrative systems and processes.

You will ideally have strong IT skills and experience using Google Workspace and school management information systems such as Arbor. Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to remain calm and organised in a busy environment are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the day-to-day operation of the school office.
  • Manage and coordinate the front office team effectively.
  • Provide high-quality administrative support to the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential and up-to-date records.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with pupils, parents, staff, visitors and external agencies.
  • Support the effective use of school management and administrative systems.
  • Use Google Workspace and relevant MIS systems, including Arbor where applicable.
  • Develop and improve administrative processes and procedures.
  • Deal confidently and professionally with enquiries, ensuring a high standard of customer service.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Work independently while contributing positively to the wider school team.

Essential Requirements

The successful candidate will have:

  • Recent experience working as a School Office Manager/Administrator or within a school office environment.
  • A current Enhanced DBS.
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Confidence communicating with staff, parents, pupils, visitors and external agencies.
  • The ability to work independently and effectively as part of a busy team.
  • Experience managing a busy office.
  • Experience working within an educational setting.
  • Good IT skills and confidence using computerised systems.

Desirable

  • Experience using Arbor or another school Management Information System (MIS).
  • Experience using Google Workspace.
  • Experience supervising, managing or developing administrative staff.
  • Experience improving office systems and administrative processes.
