We are looking for an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Manager to lead the development and delivery of health, safety, and wellbeing across all our sites. This is a key leadership role, providing expert guidance, shaping policy, and fostering a positive safety culture for staff, students, contractors, and visitors. You will oversee risk management, training, inspections, and compliance monitoring, ensuring a safe and healthy environment while embedding best practice across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the strategic planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of health, safety, and wellbeing initiatives.
- Provide expert advice on health and safety legislation and compliance.
- Develop, deliver, and evaluate a comprehensive health and safety training programme.
- Manage a part-time H&S Adviser and support staff with designated health and safety responsibilities.
- Develop annual action plans, policies, and procedures aligned with organisational priorities.
- Conduct risk assessments, inspections, audits, and incident investigations.
- Act as the organisation’s designated contact for the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and oversee RIDDOR reporting.
- Analyse data, identify trends, and recommend improvements to performance.
- Work with teams to embed health and safety into course design, operations, and quality assurance processes.
- Promote environmental sustainability and the wellbeing of all students and staff.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice
- Proven experience in delivering health and safety initiatives in education or similar environments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently, manage resources, and meet deadlines
Desirable:
- Degree or professional qualification in health and safety
- Member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH)
- Experience in line management and delivering first aid training
- Familiarity with SafetyCulture (iAuditor) or similar H&S management software
