Location: Ipswich
Contract: Full-time, Permanent
Start Date: September 2026
Salary: £46,803 – £53,919 per annum, plus market forces payment of up to £5,781 pro-rata, depending on qualifications and experience
Hours: 35 hours per week, 52 weeks per year
The Role
An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Head of Built Environment to lead the operational and strategic development of Built Environment programmes across Level 3 and higher.
You will lead a diverse curriculum covering T Levels, apprenticeships, higher technical qualifications and degree-level programmes, ensuring high-quality teaching, learning, assessment and outstanding learner outcomes.
Working as part of the wider management team, you will inspire and develop staff, manage curriculum performance and budgets, and build strong relationships with employers, industry partners and higher education providers.
The role also includes some teaching within your specialist subject area.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Built Environment curriculum at Level 3 and above.
- Manage, motivate and develop teaching and support staff.
- Monitor learner and apprentice attendance, progress, achievement and outcomes.
- Lead curriculum planning, quality improvement and self-assessment activities.
- Develop strong employer and industry partnerships and create opportunities for work experience and employment.
- Support the development of new curriculum and commercial opportunities in response to industry needs.
- Work with higher education partners to support the delivery and quality of higher-level programmes.
- Oversee assessment, internal quality assurance and awarding body requirements.
- Use performance data to identify priorities and drive improvement.
- Manage relevant budgets and resources effectively.
- Promote programmes through open events, schools, employers and other external networks.
- Ensure effective safeguarding, health and safety and learner support.
- Undertake teaching, assessment and related academic duties as required.
Essential Requirements
You will need:
- Experience of middle management and leading high-performing teams.
- Experience of teaching, training, assessing, mentoring and/or coaching.
- Experience of curriculum management and improving learner outcomes.
- Strong understanding of teaching, learning and assessment.
- Experience managing student performance, including attendance, retention, progress and achievement.
- A relevant degree or professional qualification.
- A Level 5 teaching qualification.
- Maths and English at Level 2 or equivalent.
- Strong communication, organisational, leadership and data-analysis skills.
- Experience of working with employers and external stakeholders.
- Knowledge of current Built Environment industry standards, trends and technology.
- Ability to manage change, budgets and competing priorities.
- A proactive, innovative and learner-focused approach.
Desirable
- Experience of leading T Level programmes.
- Experience of leading degree or higher-level programmes.
- Built Environment industry experience.
- Management, coaching, assessor or IQA qualifications.
- Membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS, CIOB, ICE or RIBA.
- Relevant postgraduate qualification.
