About the Role

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented School Finance Assistant to join our supportive and forward-thinking school community. Reporting directly to the Head of Finance, this newly created role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the smooth and effective running of the school’s finance and bursary operations. The successful candidate will support a wide range of financial processes including bank reconciliations, purchase and sales ledger activities, invoice processing, and parent billing. This role would suit an organised individual with strong administrative and financial skills who enjoys working collaboratively within a busy school environment. Professional study support can be offered for candidates currently studying towards, or wishing to begin, finance qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Banking, Purchase & Sales Ledger
    • Complete daily bank reconciliations
    • Manage treasury deposits
    • Process purchase orders accurately and efficiently
    • Process supplier invoices, staff expenses, and Barclaycard transactions
    • Maintain purchase ledger records and supplier statement reconciliations
    • Manage petty cash transactions
    • Process termly parent invoices in a timely manner
    • Assist with parent finance queries and collection of outstanding payments
  • Month-End & Financial Processes
    • Carry out monthly bank and petty cash reconciliations
    • Prepare and distribute half-termly budget reports to budget holders
    • Support financial year-end procedures and audit preparation
  • General Administration & Support
    • Maintain accurate finance filing and archiving systems
    • Manage stationery orders and stock requests
    • Provide administrative and financial support to the Director of Finance & Operations and wider bursary team
    • Assist teaching staff and senior leaders with finance-related queries

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Previous experience in a finance, accounts, or bursary/administrative role
  • Understanding of bank reconciliations, purchase ledger, and sales ledger processes
  • Strong numerical and organisational skills
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Professional and confidential approach to work

Desirable

  • Experience working within an educational or school environment
  • Knowledge of finance systems or accounting software
  • AAT qualification or willingness to study towards professional finance qualifications
  • Full UK driving licence due to semi-rural location
