Working Hours
Monday to Friday – split shift:
- 6:30am–9:30am and 12:30pm–4:30pm, OR
- 6:30am–9:30am and 2:30pm–6:30pm
Candidates can choose their preferred afternoon shift.
About the Role
We are looking for a dependable, proactive and practical School Caretaker / Site Manager to support the smooth day-to-day operation of a busy school in Openshaw.
This is a key role within the school, helping to maintain a safe, secure, clean and welcoming environment for pupils, staff and visitors.
The successful candidate will be practical, organised and able to work independently, while also contributing positively as part of the wider school team. You will take pride in maintaining high standards across the site and ensuring that the school premises remain safe, secure and fully operational.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily upkeep, maintenance and security of the school site, including opening up the school.
- Maintain accurate records relating to maintenance, compliance, health and safety, and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) checks.
- Carry out minor repairs and general maintenance duties.
- Undertake basic DIY tasks; experience in painting and decorating would be advantageous.
- Ensure the school premises remain clean, safe and fully operational.
- Liaise with contractors and oversee works carried out on site.
- Assist with setting up rooms and supporting site logistics for school events and activities.
- Support the school’s compliance procedures, including asbestos awareness and site safety monitoring.
- Identify and report any maintenance, health and safety, or security issues promptly.li>
- Help ensure the school site is maintained to a high standard at all times.
- Respond proactively to any issues that may affect the safety, security or smooth operation of the school.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience working as a School Caretaker, Site Manager, Facilities Assistant, or in a similar facilities or maintenance role.
- Strong practical maintenance and DIY skills.
- A good understanding of health and safety requirements, including fire safety, Legionella awareness and asbestos awareness.
- The ability to work independently and use your own initiative.
- Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- A flexible and proactive approach to the role.
- A current Enhanced DBS.
- Availability to start immediately.
