A welcoming and ambitious secondary school in the Chigwell area is seeking an experienced and dedicated SENCO to join their team on a full-time basis from September 2026. The role will initially run until December 2026 and involves supporting students aged 11–18. The Role
Reporting directly to the Headteacher, the successful candidate will lead and manage SEND provision across the school, ensuring students receive high-quality support that enables them to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership
- Lead the development and implementation of the school’s SEND policy
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of SEND provision and funding
- Ensure SEND policies, procedures, and statutory reports remain current and compliant
- SEND Operations
- Maintain and oversee the SEND register and provision map
- Support staff in delivering the graduated approach to SEND support
- Analyse student progress and assessment data for SEND learners
- Exam Access Arrangements (EAA)
- Audit and maintain EAA records
- Identify students requiring assessment and approve arrangements
- Liaise with external agencies and attend annual JCQ training
- Student Support
- Identify student needs and coordinate appropriate support
- Lead annual EHCP reviews and multi‑agency meetings
- Support smooth student transitions and promote inclusion throughout school life
- Leadership & Management
- Report regularly to Senior Leadership Team and Governors on SEND provision
- Line manage the Assistant SENCO and Learning Support Assistants
- Deliver staff training and provide specialist SEND guidance
- Work collaboratively with pastoral and safeguarding teams to support student wellbeing
