We are looking for an ambitious Graduate Engineer to join our team in Farnborough. Unlike many field-based PLC roles, this position is mainly office-based, focusing on the design, development, and simulation of industrial software solutions. You will work closely with our senior engineering team to translate client requirements into robust automated systems.

The Role: More Than Just Coding

While your core focus will be PLC systems and industrial software, this isn't a "cubicle-only" coding job. We are looking for a graduate who wants to understand the entire lifecycle of an engineering project. In this role, you won't just be writing logic; you'll be getting hands-on with the hardware and the business side of engineering. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Master the Hardware: Get "stuck in" with the physical side of systems, including Control Panel design, wiring layouts, and the integration of Inverter Drives.
  • Engineering Theory in Practice: Go beyond basic logic to implement advanced PID Control loops and fine-tune system performance.
  • Commercial Exposure: Work alongside our Sales and Applications team. You'll help provide technical solutions for clients, learn how to spec products, and understand the commercial value of the systems you build.

Who You Are

  • A "Get Stuck In" Attitude: You're as comfortable looking at a circuit diagram or a drive manual as you are a screen of code.
  • Technical Versatility: You have an interest in the "physical" side of automation - Drives, Motors, and Panels - not just the software.
  • Confident Communicator: You're happy to step away from the desk to talk to a supplier or help a salesperson explain a technical concept to a customer.
  • Adaptable: You enjoy a varied workday where you might be tuning a PID loop in the morning and assisting with a technical sales proposal in the afternoon.

Requirements

  • Education: A recent degree (BEng/MEng) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Control Systems, Mechatronics, or Computer Science.
  • Foundational Knowledge: An understanding of PLC architectures (e.g., Siemens TIA Portal, Unitronics, Rockwell Studio 5000, or Mitsubishi).
  • Programming Logic: Familiarity with C/C++ or similar would also be useful.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal English, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Local: Must be within a commutable distance of Farnborough.

Company

  • Holiday: 20 days per year plus bank holidays and an extra discretionary amount for the Christmas period.
  • Ongoing training and possibility of specific training courses if deemed appropriate.
  • Possible foreign travel, factory visits, on-site training with PLC hardware manufacturers.
  • Early finish on Friday.
  • Flexibility of working for a small business.

How to prepare for a job interview at Tecnologic UK Ltd

✨Know Your PLCs

Make sure you brush up on your knowledge of PLC architectures like Siemens TIA Portal or Rockwell Studio 5000. Being able to discuss these in detail will show that you're not just familiar with the software but also understand how it integrates with hardware.

✨Get Hands-On

Since this role involves getting 'stuck in' with hardware, try to gain some practical experience before the interview. Whether it's through a project at university or a personal endeavour, being able to share specific examples of your hands-on work will impress the interviewers.

✨Communicate Clearly

Practice explaining technical concepts in simple terms. You might be asked to describe a complex idea to someone without a technical background, so being able to communicate effectively is key. Think about how you would explain PID control loops or wiring layouts to a non-engineer.

✨Show Your Adaptability

Be prepared to discuss times when you've had to switch gears quickly or tackle different tasks in a day. This role requires a varied workday, so demonstrating your ability to adapt and thrive in such an environment will make you stand out.
