The predicted salary is between 12 - 16 £ per hour.
We are looking for a passionate and hard-working animal lover to join our busy Team at Teckels. The position is for 2 days per week, with the possibility for more hours to cover holidays/sickness. Working 17 hours a week across a Monday and Tuesday, to include some evening shifts and night cover (on-site accommodation is provided for night cover, on average 2 nights per month). This is a 6-month temporary position with scope to go permanent.
To be responsible for the care and wellbeing of animals in the centre, in line with "The Five Freedoms", to ensure that the highest level of care and welfare is being provided at all times.
Key responsibilities and main duties:- Daily cleaning of Kennels & Cattery
- Laundry – ensuring all soiled bedding is cleaned and replaced.
- Preparing & administering feeds for all animals, in line with animals' specific dietary requirements.
- Safe disposal of uneaten food and animal fouling throughout the day.
- Administering medication to animals in their assigned care, as instructed.
- Daily recording of behaviour, working alongside the behaviour team to maintain and progress programmes, as well as other required admin for the animals in Teckels care.
- Complete daily health recording of all animals in your care - Boarding and rescue.
- Appropriately exercising and interacting with the dogs and cats in your care - Boarding and rescue, including giving enrichment in and out of the kennels, following training plans and ensuring each animal has the best possible experience during their stay.
- Basic grooming when required.
- Discuss rehoming animals with potential adopters, and assisting the team in driving adoptions.
- Advise, train and work alongside volunteers on centre handling procedures and practices.
- Ensure customer care meets the standards set and expected by the Trustees, at all times.
- Working within the team but undertaking lone working at times also.
- Correct use of PPE and other work equipment.
- If over 21, use of the works vehicle as requested.
- Actively promote Teckels fundraising events during your day-to-day interactions with members of the public.
- Site cleaning/care/light maintenance e.g. painting.
- Assisting at off-site events from time to time.
- Adding animals to the database and ensuring it is kept up to date.
- Other associated tasks as required by the Centre Manager.
- Either experience of working in a kennel/animal environment or a relevant Animal related qualification.
- Candidates need to have a full, clean driving licence.
- Confident handling dogs of all sizes, and cats.
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience of positively embracing and adapting to change.
- Experience of Microsoft Office and inputting data.
