Workplace Doctors is pleased to invite applications for the position of Senior House Officer (SHO) in General Surgery. Based in Lincolnshire, this role offers an excellent opportunity for doctors at the FY2 or ST1 level to gain comprehensive experience within a supportive clinical environment.

Role Overview

As an SHO in General Surgery, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including Registrars and Consultants, to deliver high-quality patient care. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of surgical patients and play a key role in ensuring continuity of care during shift handovers.

Working Week: Average of 39 hours per week.

Enhancements: Additional pay for overtime, shift work, and out-of-hours duties.

Start Date: Flexible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Care: Provide safe and effective care for all patients under the care of your assigned Consultant.
  • Clinical Duties: Perform diagnosis and treatment for various patient categories within the department.
  • Supervision: Oversee and advise House Officers while referring complex cases to senior staff or Registrars.
  • Collaboration: Liaison with nursing and technical staff to coordinate investigations and patient management.
  • Emergency Cover: Provide cross-cover and emergency support as part of the surgical rota.

Essential Requirements

  • GMC Registration: Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) is essential.
  • Language Proficiency: For International Medical Graduates (IMGs), an IELTS score of 7.5 or an OET Grade ’B’ is required.
  • Clinical Skills: Ability to apply specialist knowledge across various surgical procedures and practices.
  • Teamwork: Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced team.
  • Compliance: Successful candidates must undergo a satisfactory DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. International candidates will require a police check from their home country.
