Job Overview:
VIQU has partnered with a recognized leader in advanced technology solutions to find a Lead Engineer in Protection & Control Systems. Based in Glasgow with hybrid working, you will take ownership of complex protection and control projects across the UK Transmission & Distribution (T&D) sector. This role is a chance to spearhead design and delivery activities, shape solutions, and act as a key technical authority within a highly dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and implementation of protection and control systems, chairing design workshops and stakeholder reviews.
- Develop SLDs, KLDs, system architecture, and concept-level designs to meet project and client requirements.
- Produce and review technical documentation, including Functional Design Specifications and Compliance Documents.
- Deliver protection and control designs, including schematics, layouts, calculations, and schedules.
- Provide technical input to tenders, sales, and client qualification processes.
- Support project managers with risk, program, and cost management.
- Act as a technical lead, supporting and mentoring junior team members where required.
- Undertake site visits and surveys to support design and implementation activities.
Essential Requirements:
- T&D Expertise: Strong understanding of UK Transmission & Distribution systems.
- Technical Knowledge: Experience with protection & control technology across major vendors and a working knowledge of IEC61850 implementation.
- Protocols & Cyber: Knowledge of communications systems, substation protocols, and cyber security requirements.
- Education: Degree (BEng/MEng) or equivalent qualification/experience in a relevant field.
- Other: Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel.
