Overview
The Birmingham Dental Hospital is hiring a Band 2 Clinical Support Worker to join a multidisciplinary team supporting the decontamination and sterilization of dental equipment. If you’re dynamic, detail-oriented, and ready to be part of a critical support system within one of Europe’s leading dental hospitals, this is your opportunity. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and distribute sterile and non-sterile dental instruments across clinical departments
- Collaborate with nurses, clinicians, and the Equipment & Decontamination Manager
- Use IT systems to track instruments, defects, and turnaround with external providers
- Maintain stock control, rotate supplies, and reduce wastage
- Perform equipment checks and remove cement or residue prior to sterilization
- Support dental students in following correct decontamination protocols
- Uphold cross-infection and health & safety standards at all times
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment
- Participate in audits, stock checks, and contribute to process improvements
- Input data into multiple Instrument Management Systems (IMS)
- Take part in appraisals and training as required
Essential Skills & Experience
- Manual dexterity and ability to handle equipment and materials
- Functional skills in English and Maths
- Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail
Desirable:
- Prior experience in a healthcare or decontamination environment
- Basic IT skills
