The Head of SAP Development is responsible for leading a small SAP development team (internal and external) and will support SAP technical projects in various European countries including the transition from SAP ECC to S/4 HANA RISE. As a hands-on manager you will ensure the effective development and integration of SAP applications while maintaining best practices and scalability of the solutions.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Guide, manage and mentor internal and external SAP developers
  • Oversee project roadmaps, timelines and resource allocation from a development perspective to ensure efficient execution of SAP initiatives
  • Establish and enforce SAP development standards, methodologies and governance
  • Provide regular progress updates and development status
  • Drive innovation by staying updated on SAP trends, technologies, and best practices
  • Provide input into the design of SAP enhancements and roll outs, offering proactive advice to functional consultants and business partners
  • Analyze business requirements and create technical specifications for ABAP programming work and all module interfaces, translating requirements into an appropriate system design and version control of deliverables
  • Ensure sustainable, scalable, flexible and template-conform solutions with good performance
  • Ensure developments are coded in a way that complies with SAP best practices
  • Project management of multiple small concurrent coding projects
  • Code application components
  • Ensure on-time delivery of developments and proactively seek support when required
  • Document, prepare and execute unit test plans and support project test cycles
  • Perform quality reviews of documentation, code and test plans
  • Demonstrate a logical and structured approach to time management and task prioritisation
  • Build solid, effective working relationships with others

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Excellent development skills with a minimum of 10 years hands-on coding experience with at least 2 years in a leadership role
  • SAP ABAP and SAP ABAP OO, Data Dictionary, SAP User exits/enhancements
  • Knowledge of SAP integration tools (SAP CPI, IDocs, RFC, BAPI, Gateway)
  • Fiori, SAPUI5, CDS views and SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform) preferred
  • Experience with SAP S/4HANA migrations is a plus
  • Experience in team capacity planning across multiple projects
  • Strong debugging skills in ABAP and strong troubleshooting skills in general
  • Forms development with Adobe PDF and Smartforms preferred
  • Good experience of working on a highly customised SAP system
  • Knowledge of SAP functional areas particularly SD, LE and WM is a plus
  • Ability to understand business processes and challenges quickly in order to effectively develop technical solutions whilst being adaptable with changing demands to ensure efficiency
  • Strong knowledge of system and software quality assurance best practices and methodologies
  • Demonstrated willingness and ability to learn new and emerging technologies with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex ideas and designs to a variety of technical or non-technical stakeholders; and to develop effective working relationships within a multicultural and cross-functional environment
  • Good communication skill in English is preferred
