London | £140,000 + Benefits
I\’m hiring a Design Engineer for a highly respected developer tools company building software used inside mission-critical, data-heavy applications.
This role sits inside the design team and is ideal for a senior frontend engineer who cares about craft, usability and consistency and enjoys working shoulder-to-shoulder with designers.
What you’ll work on
You’ll help the design team ship production-quality frontend work, primarily across the company’s website and external-facing surfaces (built with Astro + React). You’ll also support occasional product prototyping, examples and theming work, but this is not a core library engineering role.
What you’ll do
- Implementing high-quality, accessible UI from Figma into production
- Owning and evolving the frontend architecture of the website and external surfaces
- Designing and maintaining a componentised design system (tokens, patterns, reusable components)
- Improving consistency, modularity, and scalability across marketing and documentation pages
- Supporting designers by translating interaction ideas into working prototypes
- Building examples, demos, and resources that help users understand complex products
- Collaborating closely with designers, product, and engineers through fast feedback loops
- Raising the bar for UI quality, responsiveness, and maintainability
What we’re looking for
- Excellent HTML, CSS, layout, and responsive design fundamentals
- Solid experience with React (Astro a bonus)
- Proven experience building or owning design systems or shared component libraries
- Good understanding of the DOM, rendering behaviour, and frontend performance
- A collaborative mindset and experience working closely with designers
- Experience supporting marketing or content teams via reusable frontend systems
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG) and inclusive design principles
- Experience prototyping interactions directly in code
- Comfort working in a low-process, high-autonomy environment
- Exposure to data-heavy or developer-facing products
Working style
Hybrid with a strong in-office culture: 3 days a week expected. You’ll sit close to the design lead and work in a highly collaborative environment.
If you’re interested, apply (CV & Portfolo links) or message me directly for a confidential conversation.
