The Firmware/Hardware Engineer designs and develops analogue and digital circuits, programs FPGA functionality, produces all required production documentation and performs design verification and tests. The position is based out of our facility near Birchwood, Warrington, and reports to the Design & Development Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop both analogue and digital circuits including schematic capture and PCB layouts utilizing high speed/low noise design techniques.
  • Design of FPGA functionality implemented in VHDL.
  • Preparation of parts lists / build of materials, with consideration to ease of manufacture and cost efficiency.
  • Verify designs using simulation and analytical tools.
  • Carry out prototype testing and analysis.
  • Develop production test specifications and procedures.
  • Support production with problem solving.

Experience

  • Good balance of theoretical and practical experience.
  • Proven FPGA/SoC design skills (Xilinx experience an advantage).
  • Strong VHDL skills.
  • Use of simulation and analytical tools to verify design solutions.
  • Experience of prototype testing and analysis.
  • Development of production test specifications and procedures.
  • Experience with microcontrollers.
  • Familiarity with basic communications protocols and standards RS232, RS485, SPI, I2C, UART.
  • Confident use of laboratory equipment for debugging purposes.
  • Knowledge of common CE standards.
  • Programming in C/C++.
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio and Ki CAD.

Education

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent in Electronic Engineering, MSC preferred.

Compensation

  • Base annual salary: commensurate with experience.
  • 23 days of Holiday per annum, excluding the 8 statutory holidays.
