Job Purpose

We are currently looking for a Packing and Logistics Engineer (Reels) to join the team in Newcastle.

The position is responsible for the long‑term planning of the heavy logistics required when moving, terminating and packing reels.

The role bridges the reel packing and logistics teams to develop departmental improvements and supports the management of workload throughout the reel management team, ensuring the demands of the business are met.

Job Description

The responsibilities include

  • Support the Reel Management Team with the preparation of Scope of Works (SOS) to communicate factory requirements.
  • Long‑term planning and delivery of heavy logistics activities such as reel drive systems, under rollers, gantry cranes, and SMPTs.
  • Document, record and maintain SOPs, HAZIDs, work standards, design rules and templates.

Update existing machine capabilities and calculations associated with packing and logistics.

  • Use lean manufacturing techniques to identify improvements, lead or support improvement projects (standardisation, simplification, industrialisation).
  • Contribute to risk reviews through the proposal to installation phase and own closure of reel‑management specific risks.
  • Support and/or lead risk or design‑change processes such as KOM, MOC, DMAIC, DCRR throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manage contractors throughout packing and logistics activities.
  • Make problems visible using Obeya boards and work as a team to resolve them through data‑driven structured problem solving.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Packing & Logistics Manufacturing Readiness Levels.
  • Understand deadlines and report progress on readiness for manufacturing to process lead engineer.
  • Promote knowledge sharing across the department.
  • Mandatory
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in an engineering or science discipline – preferably Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Logistical Engineering or Subsea Engineering.
  • Experience in an engineering background.
  • Experience in the offshore industry and in the design, engineering and/or manufacturing of umbilical systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools such as Word, Excel and Power Point.

Desirable

  • Rigging knowledge, training and experience.
  • Experience with engineering tools such as Math CAD or equivalent.
  • Experience with design tools such as Auto CAD and Inventor.
  • Experience with finite element analysis tools such as Ansys, Abaqus, Orcaflex.
  • Experience with heavy logistics such as SMPT’s, RDS’s and gantry cranes.
  • Familiarity with industry standards for onshore and offshore handling and lifting.
  • Experience in subsea engineering and wider industry.
  • Experience delivering against challenging schedules in a project‑management environment.
