Job Purpose

The Materials Engineer will support the Materials & Fabrication COE by providing engineering support in materials selection, corrosion and degradation assessment, fabrication processes, qualification activities, supplier technical integration and technical governance across TechnipFMC products and projects. The role will contribute to Simplification, Standardization and Industrialization (SSI) by supporting engineering standards, foundational specifications, qualification methodologies, digital tools, data-driven engineering workflows and automation initiatives. The position is intended for an early-career or developing engineer with strong technical curiosity, collaborative behaviours and an interest in digitalization and engineering productivity.

Job Description

  • Materials and corrosion engineering
    • Support material selection activities for subsea, surface and energy transition products.
    • Support corrosion, ageing, degradation and environmental compatibility assessments for metallic and non-metallic materials.
    • Assist in the development and maintenance of design rules, engineering guidance and foundational specifications.
    • Support product qualification, technology development, PLM/NPD and R&D activities related to materials performance.
    • Contribute to technical risk assessments, Product HAZID activities, failure investigations and root cause analysis.
    • Support reviews of client specifications, requirements gap analysis and technical queries for projects and tenders.
  • Manufacturing, fabrication and supplier support
    • Develop practical understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes including forging, casting, rolling, heat treatment, machining, welding, coating, painting, NDT/NDE and non-metallic processing technologies.
    • Support qualification of materials, manufacturing methods, special processes, suppliers and external laboratories.
    • Participate in supplier assessments, technical audits and technical improvement actions with GSP, Supplier Quality and manufacturing organizations.
    • Support implementation of lessons learned and standard technical requirements across projects, product lines and regions.
  • SSI, specification governance and requirements management
    • Support simplification and harmonization of foundational specifications, design rules, engineering standards, technical procedures and qualification methods.
    • Contribute to SSI initiatives that reduce unnecessary variation, improve reuse of knowledge and increase predictable project execution.
    • Support requirements management activities and specification repositories, including Polarion where applicable.
    • Assist the COE in aligning technical requirements with global product strategies, technology roadmaps and value stream needs.
  • Digitalization, automation and engineering productivity
    • Support development and deployment of digital tools that improve consistency, productivity and quality of engineering deliverables.
    • Contribute to automation opportunities for engineering calculations, templates, reporting, data collection, workflows and knowledge reuse.
    • Support the creation and maintenance of Power Platform solutions such as Power Apps, Power Automate workflows and Power BI dashboards where appropriate.
    • Help structure technical data, lessons learned, requirements and qualification evidence for improved reuse across the global COE.
    • Contribute to AI-assisted engineering and knowledge management initiatives where they support governance, quality and productivity.
  • Collaboration, knowledge management and continuous improvement
    • Work closely with COE Technical Authorities, Chief Engineers, product engineering teams, R&D, project teams, tender teams, GSP and Supplier Quality.
    • Contribute to technical networks such as Materials, Corrosion, Welding, Coatings, CP/Anodes and NDT.
    • Prepare technical guidance, training material, lessons learned, checklists and knowledge management content for reuse across the organization.
    • Support continuous improvement, Lean and TIP initiatives that improve technical quality, reduce cost and strengthen engineering execution.

You are meant for this job if:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, Corrosion Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Core Technical Areas
    • Examples of Desirable Knowledge
    • Materials engineering: Carbon steels, low alloy steels, stainless steels, duplex stainless steels, nickel alloys and non-metallic materials.
    • Corrosion and degradation: Seawater exposure, produced fluids, SCC, SSC, corrosion fatigue, ageing, chemical compatibility and environmental cracking.
    • Qualification and testing: Mechanical testing, fracture, hardness, microstructure evaluation, corrosion testing and qualification evidence.
    • Fabrication and special processes: Forging, casting, heat treatment, rolling, machining, welding, coating, painting, NDT/NDE and polymer processing.
    • Governance and standards: Foundational specifications, client specification review, technical procedures, requirements management and SSI.
  • Relevant experience in oil and gas, subsea, energy, manufacturing or a related technical industry.
