Job Purpose

We are currently looking for a Packing and Logistics Engineer (Reels) to join the team in Newcastle.

The Packing and Logistical Engineer position is responsible for the long‑term planning of the heavy logistics required when moving, terminating and packing reels.

The role will bridge the reel packing and logical teams focusing on developing departmental improvements.

Candidates will support the management of workload throughout the reel management team ensuring the demands of the business are met.

Job Description

  • Support the Reel Management Team with the preparation of SOS Scope of Works to communicate the factory requirements.
  • Long‑term planning and delivery of heavy logistics planning/activities (e. g. Reel Drive Systems, Under Rollers, Gantry Cranes, SPMT’s).
  • Documenting, recording and maintaining SOP’s, HAZID’s, Work Standards, Design Rules and Templates.

Updating existing machine capabilities/calculations associated to Packing and Logistics.

  • Using lean manufacturing techniques to identify improvements, lead or support improvement projects (standardisation, simplification, and industrialisation).
  • Contribute to risk reviews throughout the Proposal through to installation phase and take ownership in closing and managing reel‑management specific risks.
  • Support and/or lead KOM, MOC, DMAIC, DCRR and other risk or design change‑based processes throughout the project lift cycle.
  • Manage contractors throughout the Packing and Logistics activities.
  • Making problems visible using the Obeya boards and working as a team to resolve using data‑driven Structured Problem Solving / Rapid Problem Solving.
  • Support the development & maintenance of the Packing & Logistics Manufacturing Readiness Levels.
  • Understand deadlines and report progress on readiness for manufacturing to process lead Engineer.
  • Promote knowledge share across the department.

You are meant for this job if

Mandatory

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in an Engineering or Science discipline – preferably Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Logistical Engineering or Subsea Engineering.
  • Experience in engineering background.
  • Experience of the offshore industry and in the design, engineering and/or manufacturing of umbilical systems.
  • Proficient in Microsoft office tool such as Word, Excel and Power Point.

Desirable

  • Rigging knowledge / training and experience.
  • Experience with engineering tool such as Math CAD or equivalent.
  • Experience in design tools (Auto CAD, Inventor) – not required but beneficial.
  • Experience in Finite Element Analysis Tools (Ansys, Abaqus, Orcaflex) – not required but beneficial.
  • Experience with Heavy Logistics (SMPT’s, RDS’s & Gantry Cranes).
  • Familiar with industry standards relating to onshore and offshore handling and lifting – beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience in subsea engineering and the wider industry – beneficial but not essential.
  • Experience delivering against challenging schedules in a project management environment – essential.
