Techniche Global are supporting an engineering defence contractor to appoint an Academic Electronics instructor. This position sits within the Company’s Engineering Training function, delivering training course modules within the Common Engineering Applications Department of the Defence School of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering (DSEME) as a Trainer Academic in the fields of electronics control, microelectronics, radar, telecommunications or avionics systems, supporting learners through both practical and classroom-based modules.
Salary: £43-45k + benefits
Location: Lyneham - 100% onsite
Duration: permanent, full-time
Requirements: British passport or settled status, or ILR
Duties and Responsibilities:
- If not already holding a suitable teaching qualification, be responsible for attending, completing, and passing Lvl 4 (Certificate in education and learning, within 12 months of employment. This may require additional work in your own time.
- To prepare, deliver, and continuously develop instruction on course modules within the Common Engineering applications Department, ensuring all teaching and learning materials, including lesson plans, training aids, workbooks, and digital content are aligned with approved specifications and training plans.
- Utilise modern learning technologies such as Technology Enhanced Learning and Virtual Learning Environments, and remain current with evolving equipment and technological advancements through regular review and collaboration with relevant departments.
- Assist with the technical administration of training, course design processes, teaching and learning materials and equipment.
- Maintain a Continuous Personal Development (CPD) portfolio in respect of SQEP, innovative technologies and equipment, future training commitments and personal development requirements.
- Participate in teaching practice and subject matter observations and learning walks, to quality assess training delivery and identify areas for improvement to improve the trainee experience.
- Assessment of trainees to include creation of written examinations and progress test papers, creation of practical assessment/examination scenarios and continuous assessments.
- Marking of examination papers, setting, and marking of course and homework and invigilation of examinations and assessments.
- Ensuring trainee development through monitoring, feedback appraisal, discipline and training interventions, ensuring all supporting documentation are maintained and that any special trainee developmental needs or training delays are flagged to the Lead Trainer (LT).
- Delivery of remedial training and revision, as necessary.
- Trainee administration including course reports and trainee training records.
- Attending course debriefs as required by the Lead Trainer.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of training delivery and seek to improve the achievement of Trainees at every opportunity.
- Responsibility within the Common Engineering Applications department for training areas for cleanliness, security, Health, Safety and Welfare (HSW), Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) and environmental and engineering hygiene, ensuring that all trainees are fully aware of these requirements.
- Supervision of trainees and visitors to ensure full compliance with relevant health, safety, and environment (H&SE) & personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements as required by the Company’s, the Authority and as relevant to the equipment training department, ensuring risks are adequately assessed and minimised.
- Ensure for tasks that the correct equipment is used.
- To ensure that Defence School of Electronic and Mechanical Engineering (DSEME) Standing Orders, and the Company’s Quality Management System (QMS) procedures, are understood and implemented while conducting any work tasks.
- Responsible for identifying and challenging unsafe practices, reporting faults and infrastructure issues using relevant systems.
- Participation in presentations to agencies and visitors.
- To perform any other reasonable duties which, in your Line Manager’s opinion, are within your capabilities to deliver the contract.
Desired Qualification:
- BSC Level 1 Working Safely
- Either BSC Level 2 Supervising Staff Safely OR IOSH Managing Safely
- HND in a relevant engineering discipline for subjects being taught (General electronics, or Radar, Electronic Control, Telecommunications, or Avionic Systems). For Foundation level (L1 – L3) academic modules.
- First Degree in engineering, (Electronics, Physics) or CEng recognition in a professional institution, relevant to subjects being taught for Advanced level (L4- L7) academic modules. (One specialisation in Radar, Electronic control, Telecommunication, or Avionic Systems).
- Have or completed the Certificate of Education and Training Level 4, or equivalent and complete a Care of Trainee course.

- Proven experience in a relevant working environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Outlook packages (Computer literate)
- Knowledge of military environment and equipment
- Knowledge of the REME trade structure and operational requirements, especially relevant to the Initial Trade Training Department.
