We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the magnetic materials group at the University of Liverpool. The position is part of an EPSRC funded project to develop magnetic nanoparticles for advanced imaging and sensing applications.

The project targets new advances in Magnetic Particle Imaging (MPI) by co-developing advanced magnetic nanoparticles alongside next-generation detection methodologies. MPI is an emerging tracer-based medical imaging technique that exploits the highly non-linear magnetic response of nanoparticles, enabling real-time, quantitative imaging with exceptional sensitivity and contrast.

A central component to the project will be the development of magnetic multi-shell nanoparticles and lithographed nanostructures via physical vapour deposition, and associated patterning techniques. The project aims to deliver step-changes in imaging resolution and enable functional imaging capabilities, such as probing local environmental conditions and material properties, in situ, through tracer development.

You will be part of a highly collaborative programme working within the department of Physics and Materials Innovation Factory and collaborating closely with colleagues in Chemistry and Clinical Imaging. You will have access to state-of-the-art fabrication, magnetic characterisation and imaging facilities, contributing to the development of transformative nanoparticle technologies for healthcare and industrial applications.

If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
