Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) is a distinctive, unique institution, rooted in the Liverpool City Region and with a global presence. Our students and staff, past, present, and future, are the beating heart of our city and can be found in every corner of every industry and community. We couldn’t exist anywhere else and have shaped the city in which we belong. Working with the people of Liverpool to improve lives and support communities is at the heart of why we were founded and why we exist today.
As one of the oldest providers of pharmacy education in Europe, we have been delivering industry-relevant courses since 1849. Prospective students can choose from a wide variety of courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate level. Our professional practice-based approach means students benefit from hands-on experience giving them the edge when applying for work and within the workplace. Our status as a Royal Pharmaceutical Society Foundation Training School ensures students receive the knowledge, skills and experiences to best prepare them for their career.
We are seeking to appoint an ambitious, commercially focused scientist to strengthen our research, innovation and industry engagement in nanoparticle formulations incorporating biologicals, processing and scale up linked to the BRITE project. This role is ideal for an individual with strong scientific credentials who is motivated to translate research into practical guidance, industrial collaboration and impact.
The post will support LJMU’s strategic aim to deliver applied research, consultancy, and collaborative projects that inform real-world development, manufacturing and scale-up decisions, with the production of white paper/s. The role is for 12 months and will focus on understanding and mitigating aggregation and particle formation in biologics, with research themes including:
- How formulation variables (excipients, surfactants, buffers, lipids) drive instability and particle risk
- Where instability is introduced during manufacturing and scale up (mixing, filtration, chromatography, fill finish, storage)
- Developing integrated, risk based frameworks to predict and reduce particle formation across development and manufacture
You will work closely with industry partners to translate science into practical guidance, decision tools and impact driven research. Informal enquiries can be made to Professor Imran Saleem or Dr Kehinde Ross.
In return, we offer an excellent benefits package including generous annual leave entitlement, pension scheme, induction, and development support as well as family-friendly policies. This is an exciting time to join the university as we deliver the LJMU Strategy 2030 and its vision of LJMU as an inclusive civic university transforming lives and futures, by placing students at the heart of everything we do.
LJMU values diversity and provides a supportive and inclusive environment where everyone can fulfil their potential. Please note all of our vacancies will be closed to applications at midnight on the advertised closing date, unless otherwise stated. LJMU are committed to adhering to the Principles set out in the Researcher Development Concordat; in line with this all fixed-term researchers will be supported to complete 10 days professional development activities per year (pro-rata).
