The Centre for International Education and Languages (CIEL) is seeking a forward thinking, motivated, & highly skilled professional to join the Academic Skills Team as Lecturer in Academic Skills Education and AI Lead.
This role offers a rare opportunity to shape a new direction for AI informed pedagogy within The Academic Skills Programme.
Grounded in inclusive education and evidence-informed pedagogy, the programme fosters equitable access to learning by recognising and responding to the varied backgrounds, prior experiences, and learning needs of different student groups. Through targeted provision, embedded support, and collaborative practices, it promotes skills development in critical thinking, academic literacy, and independent learning. In alignment with King’s Strategy 2030, the programme contributes to an inclusive educational environment, with the aim of enhancing student outcomes and overall academic confidence.
About the role
Role Purpose
The Lecturer in Academic Skills Education and AI Lead will contribute to the ongoing development of an innovative, inclusive Academic Skills Programme aligned with King’s Strategy 2030. Building on a student-centred and pedagogically informed approach, the postholder will lead the meaningful integration of AI literacy across provision, ensuring it supports diverse learners in developing critical, ethical, and effective engagement with emerging technologies.
Working in close partnership with academic colleagues, the role involves engaging in dialogue to understand the needs of different student groups and co-developing approaches to embedding AI literacy within disciplinary contexts. Alongside delivering high-quality, student-facing academic skills teaching, the postholder will provide expert guidance and leadership, contributing to institutional policy and practice.
As a recognised specialist, the AI Lead will champion inclusive and evidence-informed approaches to AI in education, ensuring that provision enhances student confidence, academic success, and equitable access to learning, in line with sector best practice and the ambitions of Strategy 2030.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About you
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
- Postgraduate qualification in a relevant field (e.g. Education, Applied Linguistics, Academic Development), plus a Level 7 teaching qualification i.e. PGCE and Fellowship of the HEA Academy (essential) with commitment to achieving Senior Fellowship (SFHEA).
- Significant experience in Learning Development, Academic Skills, EAP, or Higher Education teaching & learning, including demonstrable expertise in coordinating or leading pedagogy and curriculum design, inclusive education, and the integration of AI literacy into learning & teaching at programme or institutional level.
- Experience designing and delivering workshops, 1:1s, & embedded provision
- Strong understanding of, & demonstrable expertise in, AI tools, including their capabilities and limitations in academic contexts, as well as ethical and responsible AI use, academic literacies, and student development.
- Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to build credibility quickly and work across departments to develop effective relationships.
- Commitment to promoting inclusive practices in curriculum design, teaching, assessment & team leadership, aligned with department and college strategies.
- Demonstrable experience coaching, mentoring and developing colleagues in AI-ready teaching & assessment design
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with practical delivery, as well as manage a varied workload.
Desirable criteria
- Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy and/or CeP, or willingness to achieve certification within 12 months of appointment.
- Senior Fellowship of Advance HE.
- Engagement in scholarship or research in education.
- Experience supporting others to integrate digital technologies into teaching.
