Junior Clinical Training Scholarship — Small Animal Surgery

Overview

On‑site accommodation is available for £300 per month, including bills. The scholarship lasts 12 months and starts September2026 (or as soon as possible thereafter) to enhance the Small Animal Surgical and Anaesthesia services and undergraduate teaching at the Queen’s Veterinary School Hospital.

Responsibilities

• Support the Small Animal Soft‑Tissue and Orthopaedic Surgery services, from work‑up and diagnosis to management of surgical patients, scheduling appointments, preparing for and assisting with surgeries, and post‑surgical after‑care and discharge.
• Assist with sedation and anaesthesia of a wide range of surgical and medical patients, including those in the critical care unit.
• Provide practical instruction and support to final‑year veterinary students during their surgery and anaesthesia rotations.
• Participate in a weekend/weeknight on‑call rota within the hospital.
• Help develop clinical and organisational skills, and acquire experience in small‑animal soft‑tissue/orthopaedic surgery, anaesthesia and critical care.

Qualifications

• Member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS).
• At least 12 months of experience in companion‑animal practice.
• Preferred: pre‑existing experience in small‑animal surgery and/or anaesthesia or completion of a rotating Small‑Animal Internship.
