Overview
On 1 August 2026, the University of Greenwich and the University of Kent will form the London and South- East (LASE) University Group.
If you join us, you will be employed by LASE but will work as part of the University of Greenwich academic division, contributing to its strengths, community and identity while being part of a wider group.
Through LASE we aim to deliver outstanding education, impactful research, and meaningful regional and global impact.
The role is based within the School of Engineering at the University of Greenwich.
This position supports the transformation to focus on Digital Engineering, with emphasis on Applied AI in Engineering, Robotics and Automation, and Digital Engineering.
The post is primarily based at the Medway campus, contributing to the Digital Engineering and Innovation Portfolio, including programmes such as Applied AI for Engineering, Robotics and Automation, Computer Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership to shape the future direction of Digital Engineering research, innovation, and research-informed education within the School of Engineering.
- Support the School's broader strategic aims and ensure programmes meet the requirements of PSRBs, with emphasis on accreditation and alignment with institutions such as the IET.
- Inspire and lead high-performing research teams, secure major external research and innovation funding, and supervise doctoral researchers.
- Build internationally recognised research capability and contribute to interdisciplinary research agendas and research centre development.
- Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with industry and international collaborators.
- Potentially undertake wider academic leadership responsibilities (e. g., Deputy Head of School, Associate Head of School, Director of Research or Portfolio Leadership roles).
- Contribute strategically to the University’s ambitions in the REF, TEF, and KEF, and enhance student satisfaction and experience.
- Shape the development of Digital Engineering education and the curriculum to meet sector needs and PSRB expectations.
Qualifications and Experience
- Ph D or equivalent professional experience in a related area.
- Proven experience in higher education teaching and curriculum development.
- Track record of research or professional innovation and success in securing research grants.
- Clear understanding of PSRB expectations; possessing a relevant PSRB membership would be a significant advantage.
- Internationally recognised research activity and the ability to lead and manage research groups, centres, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
- Strong academic leadership, pedagogical expertise, and the ability to enhance the student learning experience.
