Technical Surfaces Ltd is the UK's leading artificial sports surface maintenance company. Based at our head office in Leicester, this role covers the whole of the UK and also services our office in Falkirk, Scotland.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced HGV Class 1 HIAB Driver to safely and efficiently transport and deliver goods and materials to customers and sites throughout the UK. You will operate a Class 1 (C+E) HGV with HIAB crane, using forklifts, Avant loaders and ramps where required. You will be responsible for safely loading, unloading and securing materials and machinery, completing deliveries professionally and on time, and maintaining high standards of vehicle, crane and load safety. The role also involves actively supporting our maintenance teams on site. This may include operating the HIAB, forklift or Avant to assist with works, such as loading bagged material into a dumper. Where required, you will remain on site for the duration of the works and work as part of the maintenance team. A member of the maintenance team may also travel in your vehicle to and from site. The position involves tramping and overnight stays away from home, including multi-day journeys across different UK locations.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Safely operate a Class 1 (C+E) HGV and HIAB crane.
  • Load and unload materials and machinery using HIAB, forklift, Avant and ramps where required.
  • Correctly secure loads and ensure safe weight distribution and load restraint.
  • Carry out daily vehicle, crane and equipment safety checks.
  • Complete deliveries and collections on time, following planned routes and instructions.
  • Liaise with the Operations Manager regarding efficient routes for larger works.
  • Comply with UK road transport, drivers' hours, Working Time and health & safety regulations.
  • Complete delivery paperwork, digital records and vehicle defect reports accurately.
  • Maintain the vehicle and crane in a clean, safe and roadworthy condition.
  • Communicate professionally with customers, site staff and transport planners.
  • Assist maintenance teams with onsite works and loading/unloading activities.
  • Represent Technical Surfaces Ltd professionally at all times.
  • Undertake tramping and overnight stays away from home.

About You - Skills & Experience

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Full HGV Class 1 (C+E) licence and relevant driving experience.
  • HIAB/lorry loader crane qualification and practical experience.
  • Forklift and/or Avant loader qualification and experience.
  • Experience with tramping and overnight stays.
  • Previous UK-wide delivery and multi-drop experience.
  • Good knowledge of UK roads and route planning.
  • Experience safely loading, unloading and securing a variety of goods and materials.
  • Strong understanding of load safety, weight distribution and load restraint.
  • Knowledge of drivers' hours, tachograph and Working Time Regulations.
  • Confidence operating HIAB equipment in a variety of environments, including customer sites.
  • Good vehicle awareness and ability to complete safety checks.
  • Reliability, punctuality and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility regarding working hours, travel and overnight stays.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • A professional attitude and strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and complete delivery documentation.

You must also be willing to actively assist the maintenance team when required and work collaboratively to ensure onsite works are completed efficiently.

Package & Remuneration

  • £18.00 per hour
  • Contracted 40-hour week
  • Typical working week of 50-55 hours, paid at the same hourly rate
  • Monday-Friday working pattern
  • Optional weekend work paid at time and a half
  • Overnight stay bonus
