Technical Stage Services are specialists in Theatre and Live Event Technology. Unlike most companies in the industry we offer a full range of services for our customers – and we do them well.
Whether it’s dry hire, full event production, equipment sales, installation, testing and inspections or repairs, we’re the only phone number a technical manager, facilities manager or event organiser needs to get all their technical requirements sorted.
Our business is built on long term relationships with customers – we’ll work with them to prioritise their budgets and give them a plan to get them what they need, even if it has to be done in stages and takes years.

Who you’ll be working with:
We’re a friendly team of 12 who all have the same aim: to do a great job for our customers. We do our best to do things properly and not cut corners – particularly when it comes to safety.
Even ex-employees can still feel like part of the team – some of our current team returned having previously left, and many of our ex-team members still freelance for us regularly!
What we do can be hectic at times– it’s events after all – but we all have a ‘can-do’ mentality and will always pitch in to help each other when needed. And we’ll have a few laughs along the way!
What you’ll be doing:
This is a hands-on role leading site installations of AV and performance systems across schools, theatres, and event spaces. You’ll be out on the tools – installing, testing, troubleshooting – while also supervising small teams, liaising with clients, and making sure every job is completed safely and professionally.
You’ll play a key part in bringing our projects to life – whether it’s fitting out a new drama studio, updating a theatre’s lighting system, or installing a full AV package in a school hall.

You can break this job down into three main parts:
- Install audio, lighting, video, stage and rigging systems
- Read and follow technical drawings and system schematics
- Carry out fault-finding, testing and commissioning
- Supervise small teams, including apprentices
- Ensure work is completed to high standards and on schedule
- Be the main point of contact for clients and contractors while on site
3. Reporting and communication
- Complete job reports and paperwork
- Keep the Projects Manager in the loop on progress and issues
- Help support junior staff and share your knowledge
What a Typical* day might look like:
*Note: no two days are ever really “typical” in this role, but here’s a flavour of what it could look like…
8:30am Arrive on site and run through the day’s tasks with the team
8:50am Start the install: mounting lighting bars and program the lighting desk
11:00am Tea break (and a quick look at the plans for tomorrow’s second fix)
1:00pm Lunch
1:30pm Testing and troubleshooting a PA rack that’s showing a fault
3:00pm Final site walkaround with the customer and check off the snag list, followed by training on the new systems
4:30pm Upload site notes and photos to the cloud and call the Projects Manager to debrief
5:00pm Head back, ready to do it all again tomorrow!

We might not be the highest paying company, but we’re being totally upfront about that – the salary range is between £28,000 and £35,000 – where you sit within that range will depend on your skills and experience.
It’s useful to also know that:
– We’re Living Wage employers, so everyone is paid a decent wage
– We usually apply a cost of living increase to salaries each year
– After 3 years with us you’ll be eligible for an annual retention bonus

- You’ll be confident leading a small team on site and keeping everyone moving in the right direction
- You’ll take pride in your work and always aim for a tidy, high-quality finish
- You’ll know your way around AV and electrics – even if you don’t have every bit of paper to prove it
- You’ll be friendly and professional when chatting with clients, contractors or site managers
- You’ll be happy reading technical drawings and turning them into real-world solutions
- You’ll be the one who spots issues before they become problems – and quietly sorts them out
- You’ll have experience with rigging, lifting systems or mechanical installs (or be keen to build your skills here)
- You’ll be well-organised and good at handling multiple tasks, time management and paperwork
- You’ll be presentable, approachable, and not afraid to ask for help when needed
- You’ll have a full UK driving licence and be happy travelling to sites across the country (including some overnight stays)
- You’ll be confident using IT – you’re comfortable with things like Windows applications, manufacturer software, job sheets, digital drawings, and uploading photos from site

The Nitty Gritty
We work out of our main unit in Selby, North Yorkshire, but you’ll spend most of your time out on sites across the country. You’ll get a van, a laptop and a mobile phone so you can work from pretty much anywhere.
The job is full-time, but we can be flexible on this for the right person. Full time hours are 40 hours per week, and we encourage any overtime worked to be taken back as time off in lieu.
