Our client is an established engineering manufacturer based in Pudsey. Due to continued growth, they are currently recruiting a CAD Engineer to join their engineering team. The successful candidate will lead a variety of projects, including new product development and customised product ranges.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in mechanical design, CAD modelling, and hands-on experience in fabrication and TIG welding processes. As a key member of the design team, you will be responsible for creating detailed CAD models and technical drawings while ensuring manufacturability and quality standards are met in the production of our clients' equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Create accurate and detailed product designs, ensuring they meet customer specifications and industry standards.
  • Use mechanical engineering principles to design effective, affordable, and easy-to-manufacture equipment, focusing on materials, strength, and performance.
  • Work closely with the production team to ensure designs are feasible and optimised for the fabrication process.
  • Provide technical support and resolve any design-related issues that arise during production.
  • Ensure that designs account for the welding, assembly, and polishing processes, integrating these requirements into the CAD models to optimise efficiency and product quality.
  • Collaborate with fabricators and welders to ensure seamless communication between design and production, ensuring the final product matches the design specifications.
  • Identify opportunities for design improvements that could reduce costs, enhance performance, or streamline production processes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation, including design modifications, revisions, and engineering change orders (ECOs).
  • Provide reports and updates on design progress.
  • Ensure designs comply with all relevant quality control standards and safety regulations, working closely with the quality assurance team to meet product specifications.
  • Contribute new ideas for product development and improvement, keeping up to date with the latest engineering trends, technologies, and best practices.
Candidate:
  • Apprentice trained in Sheet Metalwork & Fabrication, or a related field and competent TIG welding skills.
  • Experience with CAD software, ideally AutoCAD.
  • Mechanical design skills, particularly in a manufacturing environment that involves fabrication, welding, and polishing of metal products.
  • High level of attention to detail, experienced working to high standards, working collaboratively with others whilst having the ability to work on own initiative.
