Rare opportunity for a System Controls Technicianbased at a large manufacturing site near Maidstone. Permanent, great salary, benefits and prospects. Monday to Friday 8.30– 5.30.

This site is part of a global recycling / packaging manufacturinggroup.

Working under the supervision of the System Controls Engineer within the maintenance leg of the engineering department function. Operating as a dedicated 2-person team providing diagnostic and fault-finding capabilities to front line systems incorporating a wide range of specialist sitewide software and its associated hardware.This will require good interaction between Process Control and IT platforms and there is a requirement to develop understanding and close working relationships with the Information Technology (IT) department.

Focus is to be very much on reliability and preventative driven maintenance providing a proactive approach.

This position would also need to respond to breakdowns that would have an immediate effect on plant safety, environmental release and plant performanceand must work quickly towards the resolution of the problem.

Areas of responsibility:

  • To be the Engineering Department Competent Person and perceived expert along with the System Controls Engineer for the hardware and software configuration and continued reliable functionality of each system and its integration as a complete package in support of the SiteOperations portfolio of ancillary equipment support services. Being a point of contact for the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) in respect of servicing requirements and for detailed fault finding and support. To actively engage in plant improvements
  • DCS – Distributed Control System, including input/output (IO) and associated hardware, computer development and associated upgrades. Software modifications in line with requirements
  • QCS – Quality Control System, including Scanners, Dryer Moisturiser, Head-box Dilution and Control System. Being a site radiation competent person
  • WIS – Web Inspection system, including the Camera O-Frame, Automatic Winder Braking System, Code Marking System and Computer Control System
  • IT systems Interaction – all control systems link to the IT system via a secured gateway. Responsible to work with IT to ensure smooth communication between systems. Includes integrated displays, SAP/Mii systems exchange of data for reports and control, outside support from OEM
  • Using SAP PM for documentation of history, routine scheduling of WO’s, identification and control of spare parts including many electronic items. Will need to be familiar with SAP PM and have some knowledge of SAP MM to find spare parts in stores
  • Machine Drives – including control system, monitoring, analysing, safety circuits and any protective devices designed to safeguard plant and equipment as well as people
  • On-line Vibration data collection hardware (IMX) and interaction with the software support provider. This will include maintaining the reliability of the vibration sensors, speed reference input sensors and the cabling from each
  • Provide cover and support to the System Controls Engineer, represent him at the department meetings or in matters of site equipment problems in his absence

Qualifications and Experience for Systems Control Technician:

  • HNC / HND / Degree engineering qualification.
  • Systems controlexperience gained in a heavy engineering manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate strategic thinking to improve manufacturing reliability.
  • Ability to demonstrate in depth controlsengineering knowledge appropriate to the site.
