Ex military Mechanics / Mechanical Fitter Technicians / Electrical Fitters required in Stockport. Due to business growth, this is an outstanding opportunity to join part of a global business operating in the defence industry, building and supplying the Boxer Infantry Vehicle to the British Army.

Working within a team of technicians responsible for the assembly process of the Boxer, working in line with the company’s procedures to specific Health and Safety guidelines. The role is currently a day shift, however, production demand may require the flexibility of the post holder to work alternative shift patterns.

£38,400 + overtime, great career prospects and benefits to include:

  • Monday to Thursday: 0700-1530
  • Friday: 0700-1200
  • Pension: 4% Employee Contribution, 7% Employer Contribution
  • Holidays: 25 days (rising to 28 with service) plus 8 Bank Holidays
  • Sick pay: 4 weeks CSP (rising to 8 weeks with service)

Experience to support your Mechanic / Fitter application:

  • Proven experience as a Mechanic / Mechanical or Electrical Fitter
  • HGV Mechanic Certification
  • City and Guilds / NVQ or relevant Electrical Qualification
  • Level 3 Diploma in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance (desirable)
  • Vehicle assembly or maintenance experience
  • Understanding of technical documents
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
  • Knowledge of production processes and procedures
  • Understanding of quality, safety, and environmental systems and processes
  • Knowledge of legislation and regulations

Mechanic / Fitter main responsibilities:

  • Final assembly of armoured wheeled vehicles and sub-assemblies
  • Problem-solving, fault-finding, and rectification work
  • Interpreting drawings and standard operating instructions
  • Diagnosing mechanical issues, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems, proposing a course of action, and rectifying where relevant
  • The use of diagnostic software systems to complete the initial installation of software and diagnose/repair any issues
  • Complete all documentation and attesting for work within the MRP system (SAP)
  • Undertakes training to enhance competence when required
  • May involve occasional off-site travel including overseas (Germany)
  • Will actively transfer knowledge and provide on the job training when required
  • Ability to complete allocated tasks to deadlines as prescribed by the business
  • Willing to engage in the company’s 5’s / housekeeping policy
  • Order parts and equipment as necessary to fulfil job requirements
  • Expected to work collaboratively across other departments as and when requested by Line Management, assisting with their workload when necessary
