We are the UK’s gas transmission operator, responsible for transporting gas across Great Britain and maintaining critical infrastructure including high‑pressure pipelines, compressor stations, AGIs, and terminal assets, ensuring secure and reliable energy supply for millions while supporting the country’s transition toward net zero. We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Instrumentation Operations Technician to join our East area operations team. In this role, our Instrumentation Operations Technicians carry out maintenance, fault-finding and repair activities on electrical, control and instrumentation systems to ensure the continuous and safe operation of our gas transmission assets.
Responsibilities
- Perform planned preventative maintenance on electrical and instrumentation systems.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair faults to minimise downtime.
- Calibrate, test, and maintain instrumentation to ensure compliance with operational standards.
- Assist with installation, commissioning, and modifications of E&I equipment.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, in accordance with company policies, industry regulations, and safety procedures.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Support operational teams during planned shutdowns and emergency repairs.
- Participate in a standby rota once fully trained, typically 1 week in every 4 or 5, dealing with various faults.

Qualifications
- Time-served apprenticeship in instrumentation and control systems.
- Level 3 NVQ/SVQ in instrumentation and control systems (can be electrical if you have sufficient instrumentation experience).
- CompEx 01-04 qualified is desirable (can be expired or not held as client can put you through this).
- Strong knowledge of ATEX regulations and hazardous area equipment.
- Proven experience in instrumentation or control systems ideally in oil and gas or similar.
- Familiarity with safety management systems and permit-to-work procedures.
- Full UK car driving license.
- Appreciation of systems and equipment associated with other engineering disciplines within the oil and gas (or other similar process) industry – desirable.
- Knowledge of SCADA or control systems – desirable.
