Due to winning significant new business from automotive OEM customers, an experienced Tooling Project Engineer is sought to lead industrialisation and new product introduction activities.

As a Tooling Project Engineer, you will be required to manage multiple tooling and manufacturing projects together with a small team of design and manufacturing engineers.

Duties:

  • Lead delivery of tooling projects in line with approved budget, including control of contractors involved.
  • Support the initial specification of project related equipment.
  • Liaise with NPI and plant teams to ensure smooth introduction of new projects to agreed timing.
  • Ensure all trials are conducted in a timely manner and all functions support up to PSW approval.
  • Involvement in tooling/equipment buy off/project closure activities.
  • Support the quality team on the PPAP process, and all APQP gateways.
  • Work closely with the Manufacturing Team to ensure timely introduction of plant-based projects, D/PFMEA reviews and lessons learnt reviews.

Experience:

  • You will already be an established Tooling Engineer, Press Tool Design Engineer, NPI Engineer or Manufacturing Engineer who would relish working for a multinational manufacturing organisation where you will be very influential and responsible for successful product introduction from initial customer enquiry through to series production.
  • Significant knowledge of metal stamping/presswork, welded assembly tooling, jigs & fixtures and manufacturing processes.
  • An experienced individual with practical project experience and the ability to manage multiple/short lifetime projects ideally gained within the automotive, off highway or special purpose vehicle industry.
  • Metal stamping/presswork, fabrication, welded/joining assemblies and product assembly would be highly advantageous; however, any manufacturing using tooling for forming processes will be considered.
  • CAD literate to review and analyse tooling solutions.
  • Self-motivated and confident with taking responsibility for all areas of work.
  • HNC/Degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or similar.
  • Able to travel throughout the UK and Europe to meet suppliers or visit other plants on occasion.
