Location: Manchester

Working for an international engineering & manufacturing business, the Senior QHSE Engineer is responsible for maintaining & improving production quality controls and Quality Management System while ensuring HSE requirements are effectively integrated into all business operations. This role drives quality excellence, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement across the OEM production facility. The Senior QHSE Engineer will lead initiatives to enhance product and service quality, strengthen process performance, and promote a culture of quality, while supporting HSE standards and safe working practices. Working independently, the role ensures quality objectives and HSE requirements are embedded throughout the business and aligned with the organisational goals.

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop, implement and continuously improve the Quality and HSE Management Systems, with a primary focus on quality excellence and operational performance.
  • Maintain and enhance management systems in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
  • Plan, conduct and lead internal and external quality audits, coordinating HSE audits as required to ensure compliance and drive improvement.
  • Monitor product, process and system quality performance through inspections, audits, and data analysis, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Manage non-conformances, customer complaints, quality incidents, and corrective and preventive actions, ensuring effective root cause analysis and sustainable solutions.
  • Conduct risk assessments and process reviews to identify quality risks, opportunities for improvement, and appropriate mitigation strategies.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives using quality tools and methodologies to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance business performance.
  • Develop and deliver quality and HSE training programmes that promote a culture of quality and accountability.

Experience

Candidates will need to have significant experience gained in a similar Quality and HSE Engineering, Supervisory or Management capacity gained in an engineering or manufacturing environment. You will have a broad background and strength in both quality engineering plus health & safety and environmental business systems management and auditing - ISO9001; ISO14001; ISO45001. Practical experience of risk assessment and accident investigation. Strong understanding of Route Cause Analysis and structured problem solving tools – CAPA, 8D, 5Why, Ishikawa. Demonstrate leadership ability to coach and build self-confidence in team. Industry experience gained in a highly compliant manufacturing environment, ideally assembly processes. Minimum level of qualifications: BTEC in a technical subject; NEBOSH Certificate; Audit training. Strong understanding of Route Cause Analysis and structured problem solving tools - CAPA, 8D, Ishikawa, 5Why. Demonstrate leadership ability to coach and build self-confidence in team.

Our client is part of an international engineering & manufacturing group and the facility is a dedicated production facility producing safety critical assemblies for automotive/ transport OEM customers. This is a stand-alone role so the need to work independently with minimal supervision is paramount.
