Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Centre Cabling Engineer to join a leading infrastructure delivery team on projects across London. This permanent position offers a competitive salary, company van, tools, phone allowance, and excellent opportunities for professional development and career progression.
The ideal candidate will have completed structured cabling projects in data centres, offices, telecom exchanges, and large retail environments, demonstrating a broad understanding of both critical IT and commercial installations.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, terminate, and test fibre optic cabling (single-mode and multi-mode) and copper cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6a, Cat7).
- Install and maintain containment systems such as tray, basket, conduit, and trunking for structured cabling routes.
- Perform racking and stacking of servers, switches, routers, and PDUs within data centre racks and cabinets.
- Carry out patching, dressing, and labelling to meet site and client standards.
- Conduct Fluke DSX, OTDR, and Exfo testing with accurate certification and documentation.
- Support moves, adds, and changes (MACs) and assist with decommissioning and upgrades.
- Work alongside project managers and supervisors to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
- Follow all Health & Safety, RAMS, and site security protocols.
- Maintain professionalism when working in live, business-critical environments.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in structured cabling installation across data centres, offices, telecom exchanges, and large retail environments.
- Proficient in fibre and copper cabling systems, including termination and testing.
- Experience with containment installation and racking/stacking of IT/network hardware.
- Ability to interpret drawings, floor plans, and cabling schedules.
- Skilled in testing and certification equipment (Fluke, OTDR, Exfo).
- Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and commitment to safety.
