Project Planner

Project Planner

Full-Time On-site
Technica Ltd

We’re growing. Technica is a specialist engineering company delivering complex, multi-disciplinary projects for clients across the UK and international energy and critical infrastructure sectors – spanning EC&I (Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation), software and controls, mechanical, process and civil engineering, with full accountability from design through to build. An ambitious five-year strategy is taking us into new markets, new capability and new scale – which means genuine opportunity for the people joining us now: to grow a career, take on real responsibility, and help shape where the business goes next, alongside a team with over 20 years in the industry.

OUR WHY

Technica exists because the work we do matters. Millions of people depend on the infrastructure our team helps design, build, and maintain – from the energy that powers homes and businesses to the critical systems that keep industries running safely. We’re driven by the impact of getting it right: safe operations, systems that perform, and clients who can focus on what comes next rather than worrying about what might go wrong.

Why this role matters:

We’re hiring a Project Planner to bring structure, accuracy and momentum to our engineering and construction projects, from bidding and pre-construction through to completion and handover. Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, you’ll turn project scope into practical programmes that support safe delivery to specification and budget.

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Brings an organised, methodical approach to planning across multiple projects
  • Anticipates problems, understands critical paths and develops practical solutions
  • Communicates clearly and confidently with clients and project teams
  • Combines attention to detail with a collaborative, proactive approach
  • You’ll be a key planning point of contact, producing clear reports and helping teams understand progress, risks and the actions needed to keep delivery on track.
  • EC&I experience is useful, but not essential.

How you'll lead:

  • You’ll develop and maintain engineering and construction programmes, track progress against baselines and provide delay analysis and mitigation reports.
  • Build accurate programmes and resource schedules using appropriate planning norms and contractual requirements
  • Work with engineering, design, commercial and construction teams to reflect practical methods of delivery and constructability
  • Coordinate procurement and supply chain inputs, including long-lead items and key interfaces
  • Monitor critical paths, identify risks and constraints, and recommend remedial or mitigation actions
  • Capture changes to scope, programme, budget and resources, incorporating emerging work into existing plans
  • Produce timely progress reports covering planning status, changes, risks and options, with reporting requirements agreed with Project Management and clients
  • Ensure planning complies with company and client processes and NEC or JCT contract requirements
  • Use planning software effectively and identify opportunities to improve planning processes and engineering delivery

What you’ll bring:

  • Minimum five years’ experience in a similar planning role
  • Good understanding of NEC and JCT contract types
  • Proficiency in Primavera, Microsoft Project, Excel, Word and Windows
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Strong communication, negotiation and report-writing skills; able to work to tight deadlines across multiple projects

Useful but not essential

  • A degree or professional qualification in construction or engineering
  • Experience in electrical, controls and instrumentation (EC&I)

What you'll get:

  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Private healthcare (plus family options)
  • Company pension
  • Death in Service & Critical Illness cover
  • UK-based flexible, hybrid and part-time working arrangements open for discussion
  • Recognition scheme & genuine commitment to your development
