We’re growing. Technica is a specialist engineering company delivering complex, multi disciplinary projects for clients across the UK and international energy and critical infrastructure sectors – spanning EC&I (Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation), software and controls, mechanical, process and civil engineering, with full accountability from design through to build.
An ambitious five-year strategy is taking us into new markets, new capability and new scale – which means genuine opportunity for the people joining us now: to grow a career, take on real responsibility, and help shape where the business goes next, alongside a team with over 20 years in the industry.
OUR WHY
Technica exists because the work we do matters. Millions of people depend on the infrastructure our team helps design, build, and maintain – from the energy that powers homes and businesses to the critical systems that keep industries running safely. We’re driven by the impact of getting it right: safe operations, systems that perform, and clients who can focus on what comes next rather than worrying about what might go wrong.
Why this role matters
We’re hiring a Electrical Designer to deliver detailed electrical designs for our engineering projects. You’ll bring ideas to life, helping our clients achieve their project goals while working closely with our engineering teams.
This role is ideal for someone who:
- Enjoys technical problem-solving and takes pride in accurate, detailed work
- Understands how clear, practical design supports a positive client experience
- Communicates well and works collaboratively across engineering disciplines
- Brings strong electrical fundamentals, curiosity and a proactive approach to development
You’ll work alongside experienced EC&I professionals on electrical equipment, power distribution and control systems and interfaces with other disciplines. You don’t need deep experience in every area of EC&I or the energy sector: if you bring sound electrical knowledge and a desire to grow, we’ll support your development.
How you’ll contribute
You’ll deliver electrical designs from concept through to final sign-off, aligning technical requirements with the client’s needs.
You’ll:
- Prepare and check detailed electrical design documentation using P&IDs and site layouts
- Produce single-line diagrams, general arrangements, cable routes, block diagrams, loop sheets and hook-up drawings
- Prepare and check panel layouts, wiring diagrams and schematics
- Specify electrical equipment and prepare datasheets, cable schedules, load lists and material take-offs
- Prepare scopes of work and associated design documentation
- Coordinate with design colleagues, clients, contractors and vendors
- Work safely to company quality requirements and client, national and international standards, while developing and maintaining your skills
What you’ll bring
- HNC in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- Proficiency in electrical design and implementation
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Useful, but not essential:
- Three years’ electrical design experience
- Gas sector and ATEX experience
- Relevant industry certifications
- C&I design experience and knowledge
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
What you'll get
- £37,000–£55,000 salary, based on experience
- 25 days holiday + bank holidays
- Private healthcare (plus family options)
- Company pension
- Death in Service & Critical Illness cover
- Dynamic working, with at least two days per week at your nearest office
- Recognition scheme & genuine commitment to your development
