Technica is an independent engineering and construction company solving complex challenges for the UK and international energy sectors. We deliver turnkey, multi-disciplinary projects — from design through to build — with control, confidence and care.

Why this role matters

We’re hiring a Control and Instrumentation Designer to help deliver some of our most important engineering projects. But this is more than technical design — it’s about how our clients experience working with Technica. You’ll bring ideas to life through detailed C&I designs, contributing directly to project success while acting as a trusted partner to both our clients and engineering teams.

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Thrives on technical problem-solving, clarity in complex environments, and takes real pride in the detail of their work
  • Understands that great design is about more than drawings — it’s about delivering a great client experience
  • Has the motivation to step into a new sector and the curiosity to grow with support

You’ll work on a diverse range of engineering challenges, collaborating with some of the most experienced EC&I professionals in the industry. Whether it’s specifying instrumentation, designing control systems, or integrating with other engineering disciplines, your work will have a direct impact. You don’t need deep experience in every part of EC&I or the energy sector to succeed here. If you bring strong C&I fundamentals, a proactive mindset, and a desire to grow, we’ll support you every step of the way.

How you’ll contribute

You’ll be accountable for delivering control and instrumentation designs from concept through to final sign-off — ensuring every detail aligns with the technical requirements and what success looks like for the client.

  • Prepare and check C&I detailed design documentation.
  • Work from P&IDs and site layouts.
  • Prepare and check C&I drawings including general arrangements, cables routes, block diagrams, loops sheets, hook-ups.
  • Prepare and check control panel designs including general arrangements and wiring diagrams.
  • Specify equipment and prepare and check C&I datasheets.
  • Prepare and check C&I schedules including I/O, cable, instrument list etc.
  • Perform design calculations including IS, power, heat loss.
  • Prepare and check scope of work and other associated design documentation.
  • Liaise with other members of the design team.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors and vendors.
  • Work to client, national and international standards and regulations.
  • Adhere to company quality and standards.
  • Carry out work in a safe and effective manner.
  • Attend training, develop and maintain skills.

What you’ll bring

Essentials:

  • Proficiency in control systems design and implementation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • HNC Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or related field

Desirables:

  • 3 years C&I design experience
  • Gas and ATEX Experience
  • Relevant industry certifications
  • Electrical experience and knowledge

What you’ll get

£37,000- £55,000 salary, based on experience

  • Participation in company performance bonus scheme
  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays
  • Private healthcare (plus family options)
  • Company pension
  • Death in Service & Critical Illness cover
  • Recognition scheme & genuine commitment to your development

Ready to lead with trust? This isn’t just another Designer role. It’s your chance to deliver real value and build relationships that last — with clients and colleagues alike.
