On behalf of my Central Government client, I am looking for an experienced Data Protection Lead to provide expert data protection advice across digital programmes, supporting teams to deliver compliant, user-centred services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain a log of specialist data protection advice provided to delivery teams
- Lead and support Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs)
- Produce key data protection documentation, including Records of Processing Activities (ROPAs) and lawful basis guidance
- Manage data-sharing requirements, including templates and guidance for data-sharing agreements and international data transfers
- Deliver training sessions, knowledge-sharing activities, and written guidance to upskill staff
- Develop and maintain data protection policies, standards, and process documentation
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Expert legal knowledge of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018
- A strong understanding of data protection principles and individual rights
- Proven experience delivering data protection advice within digital projects, ideally involving AI or machine learning systems
- Hands-on experience conducting and supporting DPIAs in a collaborative and pragmatic way
- Experience advising on data-sharing agreements and data transfer mechanisms
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Privacy qualifications such as CIPP/E or CIPM are highly desirable
- Any experience working in, or with, the public sector, or familiar with government ways of working, is highly beneficial
