This is a highly technical, hands-on architecture role where you’ll define target data and AI architectures, lead Fabric migration activity, support engineering teams, and ensure the platform is reliable, scalable and secure.

As the Data & AI Architect, you will lead Microsoft Fabric implementation and migration projects, including pre-migration assessments, migration planning, target architecture definition and data migration design. You’ll work closely with development, testing, platform and architecture teams to deliver robust data solutions and improve migration guidance and service offerings.

You’ll also play a key role in AI solution design, assessing use cases, recommending the right AI approach, implementing data agents within Fabric and making AI capabilities accessible to the business.

Key responsibilities:
  • Lead Microsoft Fabric implementation and migration activity
  • Define target Fabric and AI architecture
  • Analyse data mapping and data models to create ingestion-level mapping
  • Design and execute data migration strategies
  • Implement POCs with limited developer support
  • Define logical and physical data models
  • Provide technical guidance to product teams on existing services and utilities
  • Design and lead DevOps implementation for the data platform
  • Coach and mentor engineers and developers on DevOps best practice
  • Collaborate with platform, architecture and wider technical teams
  • Act as the technical point of contact for cloud service providers such as Azure
  • Support platform reliability, availability, monitoring, incident response and disaster recovery
  • Drive continuous improvement around security, resilience, failover and operational performance

The ideal candidate will have strong experience designing and delivering Azure-based data platform solutions, with hands-on knowledge across Microsoft data, cloud and AI technologies.

You should have experience with:

  • Microsoft Fabric and Azure Synapse Analytics
  • Azure Data Factory and Databricks
  • Azure Functions, App Service, Logic Apps, AKS, Web Apps and related Azure services
  • Azure SQL Managed Instance and Azure PostgreSQL
  • Microsoft Foundry and Power Apps
  • Real-time streaming technologies such as Kafka, Azure Stream Analytics or Event Hub
  • Spark processing and performance tuning
  • File formats and partitioning, including Parquet, JSON, XML and CSV
  • Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions
  • C# or Python, with knowledge of the other
  • Synchronous and asynchronous interface approaches
  • Microservices architecture
  • DevOps processes across development, testing, release and deployment
  • Data modelling, including 3NF, dimensional modelling and Data Vault 2.0
  • Agile delivery environments

You’ll also be confident producing comprehensive documentation, leading technical analysis, managing expectations around timescales and outcomes, and influencing stakeholders across technical and business teams.

Experience with any of the following would be beneficial:

  • Azure Purview, Collibra or other data cataloguing tools
  • Power BI, Tableau or other visualisation tools
