We are supporting a major enterprise transformation programme seeking an experienced AWS Cloud Operations Engineer to join a high-performing AWS operations team. This is a hands-on contract role focused on maintaining secure, stable, and highly available cloud infrastructure while driving automation and operational improvements across a complex AWS estate.
The successful contractor will combine strong AWS and Linux operational expertise with a proactive automation mindset, helping evolve operational processes from reactive support towards intelligent, automated cloud operations.
Key Responsibilities- Support and maintain AWS cloud infrastructure in a BAU operations environment
- Troubleshoot incidents across Linux servers, cloud infrastructure, networking, and applications
- Perform patching, upgrades, maintenance, and operational support activities
- Support vulnerability remediation and operational security activities
- Drive automation initiatives using scripting and cloud-native tooling
- Improve monitoring, alerting, and operational efficiency
- Participate in incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities
- Work closely with infrastructure, platform, security, and engineering teams
- Strong experience supporting AWS cloud environments in an operational role
- Solid Linux / RHEL administration skills
- Hands-on experience with AWS services including: EC2, VPC, IAM, S3, RDS, ECS, Lambda, CloudTrail and CloudWatch.
- Experience with automation tools and scripting: Ansible, Bash, Python and PowerShell.
- Experience working within ITIL / enterprise operational environments
- Strong troubleshooting and incident resolution skills
- Experience with monitoring and observability platforms (Datadog highly desirable)
- Exposure to DevOps / SRE practices
- Terraform or Infrastructure as Code experience
- CI/CD tooling exposure
- Container platform knowledge
- Experience with AI-assisted operations or operational automation initiatives
- AWS certifications
- Participation in an on-call rota required
- Immediate start preferred
- Initial 6-month contract with strong extension potential
