We are working with a global, research-driven organisation at the forefront of digital innovation within a highly regulated scientific environment. As part of a growing Digital, Data & IT function, they are investing heavily in modern cloud and data platforms to enable high-value, data-led products. This is a newly created role, offering genuine influence over cloud and data foundations, alongside the freedom to experiment with new technologies in an agile, collaborative setting.
The Role
As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, building and optimising scalable cloud-based data platforms. You’ll work across multiple projects, each supporting different business and research use cases, and collaborate closely with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Designing and maintaining cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code
- Building and supporting scalable batch and streaming data processing systems
- Driving optimisation, testing, CI/CD and tooling to improve stability and data quality
- Working closely with software engineers, data engineers, data scientists and domain experts
- Supporting business intelligence use cases, including dashboards and reporting
- Operating within Agile / DevOps / DataOps ways of working
Required Experience
- Strong hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure)
- Experience with cloud services for storage, ingestion, transformation and serverless workloads
- Strong programming skills, ideally Python
- Solid SQL and database experience
- Containerisation experience (e.g. Docker, Singularity)
- Good understanding of data modelling and storage techniques
- Strong fundamentals in object-oriented programming and system design
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders
