A global life sciences organisation is looking for a Lab Automation Lead to shape and expand automation capabilities within its R&D group. This is a senior, hands-on role for someone who can combine programming expertise with leadership of automation projects and lab build-outs.
What you’ll do:
- Lead the design, build, and commissioning of new automation platforms in R&D labs
- Develop, program, and optimise automated workflows for cell culture, assay development, and analytics
- Script and customise methods using VENUS, EVOware, Python, or Java APIs
- Manage vendor engagement, qualification, and integration of platforms
- Embed automation into digital systems (LIMS, ELN, data platforms) for seamless data flow
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior scientists
What we’re looking for:
- MSc/PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or related discipline
- Proven track record in lab build-outs, platform commissioning, and automation project delivery
- Hands-on experience with liquid handling systems such as Hamilton STAR, Tecan EVO/Proficient, Biomek i-Series, or Agilent Bravo
- Strong scripting/programming ability (VENUS, EVOware, Python, Java APIs)
- Familiarity with digital lab integration (LIMS, ELN, data platforms)
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
