About the Role: We are seeking an experienced VSAT Construction Manager for a fully field-based role across Alaska, overseeing the physical deployment and installation of satellite communication systems at remote Alaska sites. This role requires extensive travel across Alaska including remote bush locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end VSAT site construction including civil works, antenna foundations, mounting structures and equipment shelters.
- Oversee antenna installation, alignment and pointing for Ku/Ka-band VSAT systems across multiple concurrent sites.
- Coordinate with satellite operators and NOC teams for link commissioning and acceptance testing.
- Supervise subcontractors and field crews ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Conduct site surveys assessing terrain, weather and logistical challenges for remote Alaska deployments.
- Manage logistics for equipment delivery to remote/bush Alaska locations including barge and air freight coordination.
- Ensure proper grounding, surge protection and RF safety compliance on all sites.
- Develop and maintain site documentation including as-builts, installation records and close-out packages.
- Liaise with the VSAT Design Engineer at the client office to resolve on-site implementation challenges.
- Track project milestones, budgets and schedules reporting to the Programme Manager.
- Ensure health and safety standards are maintained across all field sites in challenging Alaskan conditions.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of VSAT or satellite system construction/installation management experience.
- Proven experience managing deployments in remote or harsh environments — Alaska experience strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of antenna foundation design, mounting systems, and civil works.
- Familiarity with iDirect, Hughes, Viasat or Comtech equipment installation.
- Knowledge of RF safety, grounding, and surge protection standards.
- Strong vendor and subcontractor management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple remote sites simultaneously.
- PMP certification preferred.
- OSHA 30 certified.
- Tower/structure climbing certification preferred.
- Bush logistics experience — barge, small aircraft, or snowmobile operations is a strong advantage.
- Valid US driving licence and ability to travel extensively across Alaska.
- Willingness to relocate to or already be based in Alaska.
