The company

Series A industrial AI. $40M raised. Physics-grounded AI running live in refineries, petrochemical plants, and ammonia facilities across the US, Middle East, and Asia.

The co-founder and CAIO published at CVPR and IEEE-PAMI before deploying ML systems live inside a Shell refinery. The President built Shell\’s data science programme from zero to 180 people.

The research team is almost entirely Imperial College PhDs with external recognition. The people you will work most closely with have shipped in some of the most demanding environments on the planet.

The role

One of the most senior engineers in a 10-person product team. You own surface areas end-to-end, coordinate a small team when needed, and stay IC.

The work: Python and FastAPI services, event-driven architecture in Kafka, containerised microservices on Kubernetes and EKS, operator-facing interfaces in TypeScript and Svelte.

You work directly with the principal engineer and CAIO to turn complex industrial workflows into platform components that run identically across AWS, on-prem, and air-gapped industrial networks.

You\’ll work on hard problems here. Inference orchestration across radically different deployment contexts. Service contracts that survive AI and data layers evolving independently. Abstractions that scale from one site to an industry standard without rework.

These decisions have not been made yet. You will make them.

Engineers who use agentic coding tools as a force multiplier fit here. Engineers who wait for a complete spec do not.

What this role is not

Not a management role. Your value is in what you build.

Not a large company role in disguise. No ticket queue, no RFC process, no waiting for another team to unblock you.

Not a pure backend or frontend role. You own a surface area from data layer through API through interface.

Not a greenfield prototype. The platform is live in production in industrial facilities. The reliability bar reflects that.

Where you are likely coming from

Six to twelve years at product companies or scale-ups owning systems end-to-end. Not a large enterprise team. Not a consulting background where you designed systems others built.

Strong in Python, distributed systems, and event-driven architecture. Kafka or RabbitMQ in production. Kubernetes beyond CI pipeline exposure. AWS at depth.

Comfortable across the full stack, with backend as your primary strength and enough frontend to own a surface area independently.

Svelte is the frontend framework here. If you know React well the transition is manageable. TypeScript is expected throughout.

The environments that tend to produce the right profile: fintech or trading infrastructure, industrial or logistics software, developer tooling at scale, robotics or real-time systems. Anywhere reliability is non-negotiable and failure has real consequences.

A background in physics, engineering, mathematics, or scientific computing is common here and valued.

They\’ve set a hard ceiling of 95 people to protect your equity dilution – they\’ll hit that ceiling in the next 12 months.

Remote-first across Europe. One to two days a month in London, fully expensed. £120k to £140k plus equity.
