We are seeking a commercially focused, technically strong Engineering Leader to bridge the gap between initial bid and successful execution. This is a hands-on role designed for a professional who understands the "real world" of mechanical engineering; knowing exactly how projects are priced, won, and delivered.

The Opportunity

Our client is entering a critical growth phase with a surging pipeline of framework and capital opportunities. They require a very capable individual to bridge the gap between winning work and delivery. This is a hands-on role for a Senior Engineering professional who understands the "real world" of mechanical engineering; knowing exactly how projects are priced, won, and delivered in heavy industrial environments. It is expected they will have delivered major projects for 10+ years and not just as being part of a team but rather leading the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Bid & Commercial Strategy: Lead tendering and estimating for complex mechanical works. Develop accurate costings, identify value engineering opportunities, and produce technical proposals that win work.
  • Operational Delivery: Oversee the execution of large-scale projects (£1M+), including plant upgrades, pipework systems, and shutdowns. Ensure all works are delivered on time, within budget, and to strict HSEQ standards.
  • Technical Oversight: Provide subject matter expertise in mechanical installations, pumps, valves, and pressure systems. Review engineering scopes to ensure buildable, practical site solutions.
  • Pre-Con to Delivery Interface: Manage the smooth handover from bid to operations. Validate cost assumptions and provide ongoing commercial support throughout the project lifecycle to protect margins.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Represent the business in high-level technical and commercial discussions with clients across the Water, Utilities, and Petrochemical sectors.

The Ideal Candidate

You must possess a strong Mechanical Engineering mindset combined with the commercial acumen to manage major projects and have strong direct experience of customer-facing relationships.

Background: 10+ years in mechanical engineering contracting, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity.

Technical: Deep knowledge of mechanical installation, maintenance, repair, and pipework systems.

Commercial Sharpness: Proven track record in estimating, pricing, and risk management for industrial capital projects.

Sector Expertise: Experience in Water, Wastewater, Utilities, or Petrochemical industries.
