We are looking for an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join the Vehicle Health Management (VHM) programme and play a key role in extending vehicle diagnostic and software update capabilities into the automotive manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the Systems Engineering lead and Manufacturing IO representative within the VHM programme.
  • Work closely with manufacturing, plant operations, IT and engineering teams to understand business and technical needs.
  • Elicit, analyse, document and manage system requirements throughout the programme lifecycle.
  • Capture manufacturing requirements and ensure they are correctly translated into technical system requirements.
  • Maintain requirements traceability and support requirements reviews using industry-standard tools such as DOORS/DOORS NG or equivalent platforms.
  • Develop and maintain SysML models representing system architecture, interfaces, behaviour and interactions across manufacturing, diagnostics and software update solutions.
  • Apply Systems Engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles to complex automotive and manufacturing challenges.
  • Define, document and agree system interfaces between vehicle diagnostic platforms, plant IT systems, manufacturing infrastructure, flash towers and remote diagnostic services.
  • Analyse dependencies and interactions between vehicle systems and manufacturing systems to ensure effective end-to-end solutions.
  • Support the integration of connected-vehicle technologies into manufacturing environments.
  • Work with VHM engineers to support the introduction of wireless and remote diagnostic capabilities within production facilities.
  • Help validate proposed solutions against plant operational requirements, manufacturing constraints and production objectives.
  • Contribute to the technical roadmap and business case for in-plant software update and diagnostic innovations.
  • Support strategies for flash-tower deployment and ECU software flashing, with a focus on achieving comprehensive module coverage within manufacturing.
  • Identify system risks, technical dependencies, integration challenges and potential delivery issues at an early stage.
  • Work with relevant engineering and programme teams to resolve issues using structured Systems Engineering processes.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Facilitate discussions between VHM engineering teams and manufacturing/plant operations teams.
  • Ensure manufacturing requirements, operational constraints and user needs are appropriately represented within the overall VHM technical solution.
  • Support technical reviews, architecture discussions, requirements reviews and programme planning activities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at improving production efficiency, RFT performance and manufacturing technology integration.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 8+ years of relevant automotive experience, with strong exposure to Systems Engineering.
  • Proven experience working within an automotive and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of Systems Engineering principles and their application across complex engineering programmes.
  • Practical experience in requirements engineering, including requirements elicitation, analysis, documentation, validation, management and traceability.
  • Experience working with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS, DOORS NG or equivalent.
  • Familiarity with SysML modelling and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
  • Ability to understand and communicate system architecture, interfaces, dependencies and system behaviour.
  • Experience working across multiple engineering disciplines and stakeholder groups.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to identify risks, dependencies and integration challenges.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to communicate confidently with engineers, systems architects, programme managers, manufacturing teams and plant operations stakeholders.
  • Understanding of automotive manufacturing processes and the practical challenges associated with introducing new technology into a live production environment.
  • Ability to translate manufacturing and business requirements into clear, actionable technical requirements for engineering teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary engineering environment.
